You Are Exceptional
This mod is the spiritual successor to "Be Exceptional" and "You Are SPECIAL!", although the skill and perk systems have been greatly expanded and added with my personal touch. The first two games had 13 to 20 skills and a dozen custom talents, while my version has 26 skills, and about ~250 talent lines at the time of writing this description.

Note: YAE is only compatible with v1.10.163 of Fallout 4. Currently, I (the original author Augoeides, the same below) have no intention of including YAE in the next-generation update.
Notice,
YAE has just launched a companion website that will be responsible for any future patches I make for the skill system. It's not big right now, but it may grow as my interest in other things grows. Check it out: You Are Awesome - Compatibility Patch Database.
Preface
The project initially started as a personal patch for Be Exceptional and quickly expanded to include elements from other skill system mods. Eventually, though, I had modified so much for myself that I felt I could release it to others, and started simplifying my novice modifications. However, I've never released a mod before (never even done a patch before this experience), and to get a more organized release, I started from scratch.
In doing so, I began to see the greater potential of this system and began to put my personal knowledge of tabletop games to work. I never intended to work on this project for more than a few weeks (let alone the 4 months it actually took), so I just merged the names of the two main mods that originally inspired me, planning to change them later. However, after a few months of using the "yae" abbreviation in my programming, the name You Are Extucal stuck, and that's it.
Since creating this page, I've spent just over 550+ hours designing and building this mod. This is indeed a huge undertaking for my first release, and hopefully others will find it worth the time I put into it. I've been playing and making Bethesda games for decades and have always wanted to make my own mod for one of those games. You could say this is on my bucket list.
What is "You are outstanding"?
As mentioned, it is the spiritual successor to other skill system mods, but as development progresses, it has grown far beyond that. Instead of just taking the original talents and expanding upon them, every talent in the base game has been manipulated in some way, while hundreds more talents have been added, which are essentially broken down into roughly 220+ "talent lines"; i.e. talent trees (probably well over a few hundred in total). Some vanilla talents were completely changed or split into smaller parts across multiple abilities, while others remained the same but were better described. Since the original release of Fallout 4, more talents have been broken, most of which have been fixed by unofficial patches, but I've gone a step further and fixed some issues that even UFO4P didn't notice. As far as I know, this mod is the most comprehensive talent list on the web.
Most of these talents are manually selected by leveling up as standard, but many (mainly vanilla crafting talents) are automatically acquired upon reaching a certain skill level. For example, levels of the "Local Leader" talent are automatically gained when leveling up the Influence skill early on. This is a carryover feature from Excellence mode and I really like it. Unlike original Fallout 4, all of these talents require a skill level to learn rather than a special value, …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
