Disclaimer: I love guns, but I'm not a gun fetishist, and some of these variations aren't perfect and may not be accurate.

ammunition

2mm Mag Box / 2mm EM Box: I simply changed the name.

Mini Nuke/M-42 Mini Nuke: The Mini Nuke was probably created along with its launcher, so I assume it has the same name.

Fusion Cells/Micro Fusion Cells: It's been called Micro Fusion Cells since Fallout 1, why Bethesda changed it is beyond me. While I've never had any issues, it might help further differentiate them from the Fusion Cores.

Missiles/M-76 Missiles: Sharing the same concept of fragmentation mines and fragmentation grenades as well as actual aesthetic design similarities, it's not too much of a leap to establish that the missiles were designed with said explosives and likely share a common name.

Shotgun Shell / 12 Gauge Shotgun Shell: Simply calling it a shotgun shell is like calling all bullets in the game just bullets. 12 Gauge is the most commonly used modern case (honestly the most used case period that I know of) so I decided to roll with that.

firearms

10mm Pistol/Colt N99 Pistol: While it's not a perfect copy of the previous N99, Bethesda likes to change the lore and aesthetic of the game with each one rather than adding in it like a decent world builder. It's still close enough (especially with some modifications to the barrel) to be called the N99. .44 Pistol/S&W Model 29 Pistol: It is what it is, I would also like to replace the pistol part with a revolver, but how the instance naming rules work I will have to use them directly for the new entry for multiple weapons.

Assault Rifle/Browning M2066 LMG: We’re not even talking about Bethesda’s stupidity here. My idea of renaming it is that it is designed for both power armor users and regular infantry. In fact, due to the large mechanization numbers, power armor users would not be able to use most small arms intended for infantry, so the military designed a weapon that mechanized infantry could easily use to replace the use of assault rifles along with regular infantry as a support weapon.

Battle Rifle/R-74 Battle Rifle: I like that this is the predecessor to the more advanced R-91 Assault Rifle. Taking inspiration from the M1918 Browning automatic rifle and the rugged SCSG-12 combat shotgun, it may be marketed to police and private security as a rifle and carbine for the SCSG-12. I also made sure to change the instance naming convention so it wasn't overwritten by "Combat Sniper Rifle".

Combat Shotgun/SCSG-12 Combat Shotgun: There was a lack of semi-automatic shotguns in Bethesda's Fallout games so I thought the concept hadn't really caught on yet, and in fact Stent Security Solutions decided to cash in by creating the SCSG-12 (Stand Combat Shotgun). Intended for police use (mainly in riot control capabilities) and private securities, the military might adapt them for clearing trenches and bunkers in the event of a war with the United States, potentially allowing Stents to secure military contracts.

Lever Action Rifle/Marlin Model 1895 Rifle: Again it is what it is.

Western Revolver/Custom S&W M29 Revolver: Aside from the fact that the game's weapon model is different (can't access vats or short range), this is the exact same gun as far as I can tell. A different name is still needed to distinguish it.

Double-Barrel Shotgun/Beretta 470 Shotgun: The vanilla double-barrel shotgun looks a lot like the Beretta 470, except for the silver receiver, so I named it that.

Fat Man/General Atomics M-42: "Fat Man" is just a nickname for the General Atomics M-42. Since it's not a unique weapon (despite being an iconic one), I've given it its actual name.

Flamer/FT-13 Flamer: The FT-13 is on flamer's frame so I named it that, I also made sure to change its instance naming rules so it wouldn't be "

Gatling Laser/AEGL-3 Heavy Laser: Most mods rename the Gatling laser after the classic demo H&K L35, but this bears little resem …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
