Wasteland 2—New textures for landscapes

by KingBilly - walkodile·v1.0·Updated 2023-11-05

A remastered version of the original Desolate Wasteland, mostly the same with some minor visual changes (but mostly performance focused) NOTE: ESP removes the fallen leaves texture from the ground, replacing it with another texture, if you remove ESP there will usually be black spots on the ground, same as in previous versions.

Misterken's LOD texture

This is a repaired version of the module "Dry Wasteland - Landscape Retexture" released by me (original author KingBilly - walkodile, the same below) 2 years ago. If I've made any mistakes you see, please post it.

This new mod changes the color slightly, making it less yellow, but still maintains the same aesthetic overall. I wanted it to be a dry, desert-like environment, a little sandy and dusty. I will probably recolor the browns to a Fallout 3 style, and like before, the textures can be used in any way with other mods, such as other retextures or new world space mods, no matter how small the change, and even if it's actually the same as this, I don't own any legal rights to these textures, and all are royalty free/creative commons (but many are non-commercial) Like before I didn't feel the need to make/download a new landscape texture LOD with this mod, but I do recommend it.

Description of the previous module:

"The goal of this mod was to create a set of Fallout 3 style ground textures and remove most of the dead leaves from the ground for use with the mod "Barren Trees." The mod's textures feature lots of coarse soil, sand, and dry, cracked dirt to create a dry atmosphere. I recolored the bushes to a more realistic color and the grass to a dry, desaturated green, just like in Fallout 3.

All textures are vanilla resolution (2k), but many textures have 2k normal maps, while most vanilla textures have 1k normal maps. The resolution of all grass textures has been reduced as some are much higher resolution than needed, so performance may be improved in some areas. In my opinion the textures are similar enough to be used without generating a new LOD, but I would still recommend creating a new terrain LOD to use with the mod.

The ESP included in the mod replaces the texture in the fallen leaves LTEX record with something else, removing the esp causes black spots on the ground where that texture would normally be. ESP also adds some grass density.

Note: I have a year pass to the sketchuptexture club, so these are the higher resolution versions on the website (no subscription required). "

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
