Wading in Water - Immersive Water Movement: Depth-based dynamic water resistance for Fallout 4
What this module does:
Wading makes moving through water feel heavier and more natural, dynamically adjusting your movement speed based on how deep you dive.
The impact is minimal in shallow water, but resistance gradually increases with depth. Once you start swimming, the system will continue to adjust your swimming speed based on your depth.
The goal was simple: to make the water truly feel like a presence that must be traversed, rather than like nothingness.
Function:
Dynamic water resistance:
Your movement speed is dynamically affected when moving through water.
Depth-based resistance
The deeper you go into the water, the stronger the resistance becomes.
gradual transition
Drag increases smoothly with water depth, rather than a single fixed movement penalty.
swimming resistance
Once submerged, swimming speed is also affected by the player's depth.
natural movement
Shallow water is still easy to move, while deep water gradually slows down.
Armor weight bonus
Without power armor, the total weight of the armor you have equipped will gradually affect your swimming speed.
Power Armor
Support power armor uses independent water movement settings and is completely unaffected by the weight of ordinary armor.
Power Armor Underwater Settings: Configure movement speeds in shallow water, deep water, and fully submerged water when wearing power armor.
Player and NPC support: Choose whether water resistance only affects players or NPCs as well.
safe minimum speed
Movement speed can never be reduced to zero, preventing players or NPCs from being completely unable to move.
In-game configuration
All movement, armor weight and power armor settings can be adjusted via the MCM.
Native engine integration
The mod runs directly through Fallout 4's movement system and requires no ESP or magic effects.
Working principle
shallow water area
Apply only a small amount of resistance.
As more players are submerged, Deepwater
Movement speed will gradually slow down.
swim
Once you start swimming, the system continues to calculate resistance based on your current water depth.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
