About this mod Machine translation
Makes federation's textures and meshes look better using only ESP and no external textures and meshes. Specifically, the "decals" that make the Fallout 4 world look uglier are removed and/or modified.
IMPORTANT: If you use any plugin (ESP/ESL) to replace textures, meshes or material swaps it will conflict with mine, this is by design. Read the article on fixing this conflict in the Articles tab. Also read this article about expected changes for version 0.8 and later.
NOTE: If you want to mix these with my mods, please use the Texture and Mesh Replacer compatible version download to get the benefits of both with far fewer issues than the regular version. Read the article about this release to learn about changes and more information.
Some changes will be apparent on PC if you use the console port version (starting with version 4, please read the instructions).
Additionally, patches for third-party mods can be found here:

Given a nice page (and check out the wiki for general Fallout lore, better than the unreadable mess in the FANDOM version):

This mod was made after I recently completed a mod to reduce the amount of raider and super mutant gore you have to see in the Fallout 4 game world. After realizing how much I could change using just in-game assets and ESP files, I decided to take on a more ambitious project.
Make federation's textures and meshes look better using only ESP, no external textures and meshes.
Specifically, the "decals" that make the Fallout 4 world look uglier are removed and/or modified.
I have a few goals in mind. First off, I'd like to see a lot of textures, minus all the fake wear, dirt, and damage filters Bethesda slapped on them. I'd also like to see some better textures and some really good looking textures instead of a lot of low quality, dirty and colorless stuff. I just want to do this using in-game assets so I can make this console friendly. Finally, since I love building and scrapping mods everywhere, I want to make sure it remains compatible with mods that have minor, if not no, conflicts.
This mod meets all of the above criteria.
Currently, it only covers the stock game and major expansion packs, but it is intended to cover all expansions except high-resolution texture packs (although it does not conflict with that). I may provide patches for some Creator Club content as needed.
Note: If pre-merging is not disabled, some changes will not be reflected in the pre-combined objects by default. Aside from some model changes, most other benefits will carry over.
- Usage
This ESP must be last in your load order, even after scrapping everything. The reason is because this creates a lot of material swaps, texture sets, and static changes. Any mod that overrides this mod will undo my changes. External textures and meshes as replacers (overwriting inventory files with external ones) will outperform this mod's changes, thankfully it will only do so intelligently and there should be no issues in game. This works best in vanilla games without replacers, but can work in heavily modded games with lots of texture and mesh replacers to fix things these mods won't touch.
Please note that this is a global mod. Its changes will affect all game expansions and even other mods that call inventory resources, which is why I say load this dead last in your load order. If you don't want anything it does to be overwritten, use Vortex or MO2's load order feature and/or LOOT to make sure it loads dead last, since the Fallout 4 engine has "last mod wins" conflict rules.
This mod may provide some modest performance gains on very weak computers, as I removed/modified certain duplicate textures and meshes that just added extra detail (mostly dirt, rot, and/or damage), but I'm making no promises as that's not the main intended purpose of this mod.
I don't plan on modifying certain things like NPC textures, so body, hair, and face replacements are sti …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
