Smart selection
Better object interaction
Look at it. Select it.
What this mod does: Fallout 4 usually requires you to place your crosshair directly over an object before you can interact with it.
Smart choices make interactions more forgiving. Just look roughly at an object and the mod will decide which one you'd most like to interact with. This is especially useful for players who turn off crosshairs for immersion, as precise vanilla selection can be frustrating.
Intelligent selection supports both first-person and third-person perspectives.
feature
Tolerant object selection
When interacting with an object, do not place the crosshair directly over the object.
Smart aiming
Nearby targets are evaluated by distance, viewing angle, visibility, object type, numerical values, and native Fallout 4 options.
Configurable target type
Select objects that smart selection can target, including objects, activators, furniture, and NPCs.
First person and third person: configure the selection behavior for the two perspectives respectively.
Target loops when multiple valid options are available
Loops between multiple nearby targets.
Optional contour highlighting
Clearly displays the currently selected target, especially suitable when there is no crosshair.
Object highlighting
Selected objects have optional customizable outline highlighting.
Adjust width, opacity and color via MCM.
Available colors include HUD color, red, gold, green, white, blue and pink.
HUD colors will automatically follow your currently configured Fallout 4 HUD colors.
Customize
Configure first person, third person, target looping, selection behavior, and highlighting directly through the MCM.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
