In addition to 120 new loading screens that illustrate the lore of the Fallout world and the events leading up to the year 2287 (with some nods to Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel*), dozens of vanilla loading screens have had their conditions relaxed or removed entirely, greatly increasing the variety of loading screens you'll see in the game, regardless of your progress through the main story or DLC. Regarding settings, or for Fallout series veterans who want a little more flavor in their loading screens.

NOTE: Some include spoilers for the main Fallout 4 story (where the Institute is located, etc.) as well as events from the TV show that took place before 2287!

If these are things you want to discover on your own (playing or watching for the first time), be careful.

The new loading screen offers content such as characters and events from previous Fallout games, past and present factions of the wasteland, western settlements, different sanctuaries, and more. More may be added in the future (I feel like Fallout 3 is ultimately underrated). In addition to the pictures on this mod page, here are some examples: "

The Brotherhood of Steel initially used a fleet of pre-war spaceships, which were lost over time while fighting the remnants of the Master Unity's forces.

"The lone wanderer of Vault 101 has a loyal companion named Dogmeat, a cattle dog with heterochromia."

"The largest gang of robbers in the Commonwealth was led by Bosco. Based in the Theater District, they controlled virtually all of downtown Boston, from the marshes to Boston Harbor.

"New Reno has been described as 'New Vegas without Mr. House.' The city has no government or police force, and order is maintained by four crime families.

“In the wilds of Appalachia live the Mothmen, terrifying creatures said to be half-human, half-moth hybrids from before World War I…”

There are a few loading screens that reference special encounters like mad brahmin, but the chance of these appearing functionally is <1%.

Quick introduction:

To ensure an even variety of loading screens so that new loading screens don't overwhelm vanilla's loading screens (or vice versa), this mod has edits to nearly all vanilla loading screens, as they are determined in the background.

In CK, any loading screen may have one or more conditions that determine whether it may be seen. Conditional rules are always checked first, then unconditional rules. In each case, the function first rolls an integer from 0-99 and checks if it is below a specific value (usually no greater than 20), which can then be narrowed down further by checking the player's position or whether a certain point in the mission is met. For example, the loading screen about Diamond City only appears when you load into Diamond City. The "Free your mind." screen appears only before entering the Memory Lounge in Dangerous Minds. All of these still have an integer check, otherwise you would see these every time you see the loading screen when entering Diamond City or before completing Dangerous Minds.

If I just remove the position check, the game has to scroll and check more integers before I get to the vanilla loading screen without any conditions. So, for example, a loading screen about feral ghouls is placed after all the loading screens about Diamond City or Good Neighbors. There are many more loading screens with integer checks than you might think, such as all loading screens for perks, chems, or factions. DLC loading screens only compound the problem.

If I remove all the conditions, then you end up with "Radio Fr …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
