Functions of the module

True Reflections – Mirrors bring true real-time reflections to the over 600 existing mirrors in Fallout 4 and its DLC, as well as 19 new buildable mirrors for the Settlement Workshop.

Each active mirror renders its own view of the world, so you can see objects behind you that are beyond your normal camera field of view.

The DLC image is only valid after the related DLC is installed; the workshop collection only requires the base game.

Find and make mirrors

In the wasteland, existing Bethesda placed mirrors will become reflective when using this mod. You can find them in both damaged and undamaged versions at places like Diamond City, Third Rail, Sandy Bay, Concord, and the Antebellum Bathhouse.

Settlement Workshop

You can build mirrors in your settlement.

Open Decoration > Mirror in the Settlement Workshop. Available options:

Classic wall mirrors: small, medium, large, very large, and huge.

Round wall mirrors: small, medium, large, very large, and huge.

Dressing table wall mirror.

Bathroom cabinets: complete cabinets and mirrors.

Round metal mirror: Comes with mounting arm and wall bracket.

Six cracked wall mirrors: two tall, two square and two small designs, reflected only by the surviving glass.

Note: There may be some stuttering when approaching huge mirrors due to size and frame rate loss.

Mirrors use glass, steel and screws, with larger sizes requiring more materials. No talents or quests required to unlock.

Background and performance

This mod supports MCM and F4SE menu frame menus. Changes will take effect when you close the menu without restarting the game.

To manage the quality and performance of your mirror, you can use the quality mode selector. Manual control to hide, choose automatic or preset.

automatic

Enable this feature to let the game manage image quality settings based on your frame times. This allows dynamic management of resolution, refresh rate and draw distance. It's better to control the frame rate, but have the mirror display a lower resolution in high frame rate areas.

Default

Enable Premium preset, choose from Low, Medium or High. There are presets for reflection resolution, refresh rate, shadows and draw distance.

manual

Allows you to set:

Reflect on resolution.

Update every frame or choose a fixed refresh rate.

Object distance.

Shadow switch.

Shadow distance.

Shadow map resolution.

Make your own image in Creation Kit

Authors can use the Mirror Creator or Authoring Toolkit to assign reflective surfaces.

Creation Kit

Open the Creation Kit and load Realistic Reflections - Mirrors.esm along with your own plugin. Copy or create a static object, then use Model Data and Custom Material Swap Function > Replace the flat panel's material with MirrorsOfFallout\Authoring\MOF …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
