About this mod Machine translation
PipBoyShadows is a small mod that simply adds a shadow logo to the Pip-Boy lamp and various HeadLamps, including the Power Armor lamp.
It was just a test at first but I thought it was interesting enough to share it but be careful because the results are not always good, especially with pipboy lights and especially in third person view. There are some artifacts in the shadows and some weird effects because the characters themselves create shadows. However, the HeadLamps shadow looks much better. It's obvious that Bethesda may have chosen not to activate the effect because of this, and for consistency,
So, this mod is sent "as is": if you want to deal with weird shadows, you can define it.
pipBoy casts omnidirectional shadows, which are a bit glitchy at times, mainly in third-person view, while HeadLamps cast spotlight shadows much cleaner. That's why I made two esps: one including each headlamp + pipboy and one modifying just the Headlamps. If you don't want to see weird shadows, sometimes just want the one without Pipboy.
Shadows are generated by the game engine itself. The plugin only enables the flag of the relevant light. At this point, I'm afraid there's nothing that can be done to improve the quality of the shadows. Maybe there are some hidden properties that can be adjusted, but they are difficult to find without proper documentation.
Since the mod adds extra shadows, this may have an impact on your system's performance, especially if you have some other lights in the area that also cast shadows. Especially the pipboy light, because it is an omnidirectional light, it may consume more than a headlight. This may depend on your specifications. On my side, I'm running the game on an nvidia gtx960 with high settings for shadows (I prefer this to ultra, which is too sharp for me) and I don't see any noticeable drop rate.
If you want to see NPCs casting shadows, you need to set "bAllowShadowcasterNPCLights=1" in your mygames\fallout4\Fallout4Prefs.ini file.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
