Introduction: In the original "Fallout 4", Pip-Boy's light had little effect on stealth. This glow is represented visually, but it does not properly increase player visibility in the detection formula.
This creates a break in immersion. You can stand in a dark room with bright lights and enemies will still react as if you were hiding in the shadows.
This mod fixes engine level issues. Any active personal light source will now affect your visibility to the AI's eyes. Includes Pip-Boy lights, weapon-mounted flashlights, and helmet lights or tactical lighting equipment.
When one of these lights is activated, your effective light level is correctly reflected by the AI's detection calculations. Bright light makes you easier to spot. Darkness keeps you hidden. The system finally behaves in a consistent and trustworthy way.
The goal is not to make stealth artificially harder, but to restore reasonable lighting behavior and reliable AI perception for all player lights.
Differences from other module implementations
Some mods attempt to work around this behavior via Papyrus scripts by externally adjusting detection values or reacting after specific events.
This approach works on the surface, but doesn't change how the game internally evaluates light in the actual detection formula.
This module runs directly at the engine level and integrates light sources into AI raw calculations. The player's light exposure becomes a natural factor in detection decisions, alongside distance, movement, line of sight, and other stealth factors.
The system no longer simulates visibility changes from the outside, but inputs accurate light information into the core logic to determine whether you are seen. This results in more consistent behavior, better compatibility, and a solution that naturally extends to all dependency detection formula mechanisms.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
