Update 1.2 should now completely prevent any ash or slime piles from being generated.
describe
This mod prevents the game engine from creating ash piles, blue ash piles, and slime piles caused by laser and plasma weapons (including laser turrets).
It does not delete the heaps after they are generated (like most mods do), but instead edits the core MGEF (magic effect) records to block them entirely. result? Nothing is generated, so there's nothing to clean up.
By default, when an NPC takes laser/plasma damage that triggers "slime" or "ash", the game replaces their corpse with a static pile of ash/slime and attaches their inventory to it. This mod prevents "magic effects" from being triggered - the NPC's corpse is still a normal dynamic body that you can loot as before. Since it is not a static activator, the game will remove it over time according to its normal cleanup rules.
In settlements and other persistent cells, ash/slime piles may remain forever because the game doesn't clean them properly. Over time, they can clutter the area, break immersion, and potentially hurt performance. With this mod, your settlements will remain clean no matter how many battles you fight.
Features
Prevents ash, blue ash and slime piles from spawning.
Works with all laser and plasma weapons (players, NPCs, turrets).
Block effects at the source by editing the illusion effect (MGEF) record.
No save bloat - nothing is generated, so nothing stays.
Sedimentation Friendly - Long-lasting cells stay clean.
Also applies to NPCs and NPC kills.
Lightweight - no scripts, no performance impact.
Why not remove the heap after it is created?
In large battles - especially in settlements - activator-based fixes won't help.
Ash/slime piles in persistence cells are never cleared by the game. Once they are generated, they exist forever unless you delete them manually.
In my own playthrough with 150+ attackers in a raid, the ground sometimes looked like it was glowing as dozens of NPCs were reduced to ash or piles of slime upon death. It's ugly, clutters up the battlefield, and kills immersion.
This mod completely prevents them from spawning - the ground remains clear, FPS remains high, and laser/plasma combat becomes fun again.
compatibility
Works for anything that doesn't edit ash/goo MGEF records.
Compatible with activator-based removal mods (e.g. Ash Be Gone).
Safely install/uninstall at any time—no scripting or permanent saving of changes required.
Tested on Fallout 4 v1.10.163.0, but should work on next-gen v1.10.984.0.
Install
Use a mod manager (recommended) or manually unzip into your Fallout 4 game directory.

Available versions
Two versions of this mod are available in the Files tab:
Standard ESP – Regular plug-in format.
ESP is labeled ESL – Works as a lightweight plugin and does not count towards the 255 plugin limit.
Both versions are functionally identical - choose the version that best suits your load order needs. Install only one of them.
Known limitations
A rare condition still exists: some bots create ash piles when they self-destruct, even after all activator links are removed. If anyone finds a way to prevent this, I'd love to hear from you.
Update instructions:
Update v1.1
Fixed an issue where destroyed turrets could incorrectly generate ash piles.
Existing ash piles in the save will still be present, but newly destroyed turrets will be processed correctly.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
