About this mod Machine translation

introduce

The Shrink extension is part of a set of three mods, and its main purpose is to reduce the black-and-white contrast of the Pipboy screen when one removes the monochrome display in order to use a color world map (mostly).

describe

Short: In the World Map screen, max zoom out doesn't show a sufficiently global view of the world (in my opinion).

Allows zooming out further, showing the full east/west length of the map with full zoom out and all local maps.

Also increased the amount of intermediate scroll height.

Z-o E does not provide a world map. One should be installed (using the link provided below). If not, then the frustrating Bethesda map is what's shown.

LONGER: In World Map view, the maximum zoom out is too close to the ground and does not show a sufficiently global view.

This mod allows max zoom to display the full horizontal length of the world map as well as local display.

The scrolling's proportions allow for more intermediate height, and there's also less of a difference between the first and second levels of maximum zoom.

The world map is available in 2K 4K and 8K separate installs.

If you don't know the resolution used, find the file...\Data\textures\interface\pip-boy\worldmap_d.dds.

If it's not there, then you're using the default world map, and you're in luck, because at least you'll be using a new world map (such as a satellite world map) to vastly improve your display (see below).

This has nothing to do with this mod, however:

The default Pipboy screen is monochrome, so obviously most people use this particular setup, but sometimes the retro visual cost is just too much.

The color map is arguably a better and more satisfying experience...worth a try...

Especially my other mods GKCP, ARWCSM or NMMCP (see the homepage of this page).

When one removes the monochrome display, the Power Armor Pipboy screen (world map, inventory...) becomes too bright.

You may need to change (or add) these lines in Fallout4Custom.ini:

Chapters are essential:

The default values are 3 and 1 respectively:

[display]

fPipboyScreenEmitIntensityPA=1

fPipboyScreenDiffuseIntensityPA=0.15

I also see: 1.25 and 0.15.

Since GKCP v1.1 provides automatic removal of Pipboy's monochrome display, making it ready to display color, the following is less relevant.

Install

car:

Use NMM or Mod Organizer (if you want to use and test: Mod Organizer 2 alpha x).

Use the installation that corresponds to the resolution of the world map you are using, if it is SWM or any other map.

manual:

Copy 'Pipboy_MapPage.swf' in the game directory...\Fallout 4\Data\interface\

a) If there is no message asking you if you want to replace the file, you are done.

b) If Pipboy_MapPage.swf already exists, it is because a mod installed it, in order to be able to shrink more and keep the other mod's modifications, it will be necessary to edit that file and make the small changes explained below.

Also for the future, if a mod wants to replace this mod's file Pipboy_MapPage.swf, just edit that new file and change a few lines

As shown below, to merge the two mods.

Colored or larger MapMarkers will not be included in the merge (logical) (unless you import them).

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
