About this mod Machine translation

describe

This mod fixes excessive shine on specific objects, such as a cooking station and some clothing, such as top hats. It also fixes different brightness levels on some wet aspahlt objects.

Additionally, this mod comes with an installer that allows you to choose whether you want the wet effect to be reduced or not.

performance

This mod has no effect at all and you won't notice a performance difference.

Install

Just use your favorite mod manager. The installer works with Mod Manager and works with Mod Organizer.

Since this mod doesn't use esp, you can install and uninstall it at will, no clean saves required.

If this is your first mod, you may want to watch the tutorial from Gopher to get started. If something is still unclear, please leave a comment and I'll be happy to help you.

Load order

This mod only adds some textures and small material files and requires no plugins, so you don't need to worry about load order sorting.

Compatibility with other mods

Changed wet effects affect modified objects such as new armor, weapons, and settlements. The only requirement is that the modified object uses a standard wet material file. Most mods do this anyway. If you still find someone who needs an adjustment don't be shy, feel free to ask. I believe we found a solution.

The texture replacer should work out of the box, as long as the texture artist doesn't change the overall brightness of the green channel in the edited specular map too much compared to the vanilla specular map. Diffuse and normal maps are always compatible.

If you are asked to overlay the texture when installing, it depends on whether it is necessary. If the mod author did his specular maps correctly, you don't need to overwrite them with mine. If you are unsure, do not use files from Wetness Shader Fix to overwrite files from other texture models.

Known issues

Puddles sometimes look out of place. These things have been bugged since day 1, so you might want to use this nifty mod to remove them once and for all.

how it works

I noticed that in nifskope all objects have a default wet shader. Some are concrete, metal, clothes, skin, dirt, grass... which is cool because I only have to edit a bunch of specific material files instead of changing each object directly.

Defined in these material files:

  • how much glossiness to apply when it rains (higher values mean the specular map becomes more and more pronounced) and
  • How much of the environment you see when it rains (if this value is high, the cubemap will be more visible)

There are some weird numbers in some of the material files, like 20 instead of 2. That's why a cooking station looks like it has a chrome finish.

To summarize, the wet shader is a mix of 2 values from the specular map, cube map and linked wetness material file.

Therefore, if you use a texture replacer that contains a specular map, or if you use a replacer with a cubemap/environment map, the wet effects will be affected by these files. Before you tell me you don't see broken shaders in the game, keep this in mind. If you still want to tell me this mod doesn't work, just test it out with the bloody vanilla game. By vanilla, I mean not a single mod. At the same time, I won’t give…

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
