About this mod Machine translation
★About★
In the vanilla game, player dialogue required four response options - the game no longer accepts that, nor does it. The system also categorizes most conversations into one of four types: yes, no, neutral, and question. As you might imagine, conversations don't always fall neatly into these categories!
The Extended Dialogue Interface (XDI) is a community framework that removes the hard-coded 4-option limit for dialogue and adds engine support for any number of player dialogue options.
Mods can now create new dialogue experiences that emphasize player choice and have dialogue options that truly reflect their intent.
XDI will not modify the vanilla dialogue on its own, but will display the full text of the vanilla dialogue selection.
Interestingly, Bethesda herself has other dialogue options in several vanilla scenes! In many cases these are not properly connected to XDI (no associated responses etc) so they cannot simply be opened globally. However, modders can modify such vanilla dialogue scenes to properly connect them and expose other lines of spoken dialogue that are already part of the base game.
★Features★
Complete dialogue text. Review your dialogue options to be completely sure of what you want to say.
Conversation threads. Optionally display a question icon for conversation options that do not facilitate the conversation. Stop making accidental choices when all you want is more information. The option to end a conversation will have a door icon next to it.
Flexible conversation options. Modders: Less than four things to say? Just two options, or add as many as you like.
No player voices, no problem. Skyrim and New Vegas don't have dub players either! XDI made engine modifications to overcome this problem. For unvoiced player dialogue, the NPC dialogue starts immediately after the option is selected. The conversation camera has been hot-patched to keep focus on the NPC, rather than (in vanilla) looking at the player's still mouth. There's no more awkward pause.
Configurable via MCM. XDI comes with MCM menu for easy configuration.
No hackers. These changes are integrated into the engine - no workarounds, "blank voice files", patched STRINGS files, etc. are required.
★Who is using XDI? ★
XDI is proud to be speaking for the following massive quest mods currently in development:
Fallout Cascadia (website, discord)
Fallout 4: New Vegas ()
Fallout 4: Capital Wasteland (website)
Fallout 4: E Pluribus Unum (website)
★Installation★
Install using your preferred mod manager, or copy the file from the download to the Fallout 4 Data folder and activate XDI.esm.
Make sure to launch the game using the F4SE loader.
If you get an error about the XDI plugin not being loaded, double check that you have F4SE installed and running!
When installing XDI, make sure there is no DialogueMenu.swf file in the Data\Interface folder. This file is available in XDI's BA2 archive. Any loose interface files in this folder will take precedence and overwrite XDI's files.
★Requirements★
Fallout 4 game version 1.10.50.
Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE), version 0.6.0 or higher.
If you want to configure XDI in-game, it is highly recommended to use the Mod configuration menu (version 1.2 or higher). Alternatively, you can manually modify XDI's INI file in Data\MCM\Settings\XDI.ini.
★Compatibility★
XDI replaces the DialogueMenu.swf interface file and is incompatible with mods that do the same thing. (This means that the full dialogue interface mod is not compatible.)
XDI does not modify any vanilla forms or dialogue other than the menus, nor does it conflict with other mods.
XDI dynamically retrieves full-text dialogue from the game and is automatically compatible with all DLC and mods that add dialogue - no patches required.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
