Have you ever noticed that every time you go indoors and then immediately go back outside, the weather changes dramatically? For example, there might be a big, severe thunderstorm outside, but you get into the house, immediately step outside, and suddenly it's sunny. Not only that, these houses are dilapidated, and there may be a storm outside, but you can’t hear the rain, thunder, or see lightning.

D's Ynamic Interior Skies A undsTed to EXterior RE's solution to this disaster. It's built entirely dynamically from an xEdit script that scans all cells in the game, through doors, and synchronizes the weather area inside with the weather area outside the door. This changes three things:

  • Now, when you immediately enter and exit the building, the weather remains the same and the weather system continues to operate indoors.
  • Weather sounds can now be heard indoors, albeit at a lower volume. This can also be controlled via the new indoor weather sound slider.
  • Weather phenomena such as lightning can be seen through any window that allows light to enter the room.

It's worth noting that this doesn't apply to all indoor environments. Indoor areas using skylight signs cannot synchronize their weather areas losslessly, as doing so would cause rain and moisture to appear indoors. This is because the flag works by making the unit's lighting and weather behave as if it were the outside world space, overriding the lighting for the weather being used. This can also lead to black stress, as the lighting design of the cells is based on the default indoor weather design used by almost all indoor scenes in Bethesda. Fixing this seemed to require pre-merge breaking edits, and only affected relatively few interior scenes, so I decided to ignore those locations for now.

Please note that if you have this save installed indoors, loading the save may cause a temporary bug in the sky inside the cell. Just get out of the car and get back in, and the problem will fix itself. This is because your previous save didn't have a sky inside it, so now that I've added it, but with no footage available, it gets stuck until you exit and re-enter.

Install

You have two options:

Install the normal plugin files and hope for the best (not recommended).

Dynamically build mods based on your load order via xEdit scripts.

xEdit script uses:

Extract DISASTER.pas into the FO4Edit\Edit scripts directory.

Start FO4Edit and load all mods.

Right-click any module in the left panel and select "Apply Script..."

In the script drop-down menu, select DISASTER.pas, click OK and wait (it shouldn't take too long, maybe a minute, but the loading order will vary).

Once completed, it will open File Explorer back to the location where DISASTER.zip was generated, located in the FO4Edit\Edit Scripts\DISASTER directory.

Modify the DISASTER.zip file using your favorite mod manager.

DISASTER.esp should be loaded at the bottom of the build order.

profit.

Note: The script requires xEdit version 4.1.5f or higher.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
