Description: Many shiny surfaces in Fallout 4 have fixed reflection images that do not change with their surrounding location. This mod will replace those static-looking reflections with reflections constructed from your current exploration scene.

I (the original author 103Sakamoto, the same below) have always hoped that this function could be imported into "Fallout 4", but I have waited too long. It is better to do it myself. After spending $20 on ChatGPT Pro, some basic computer graphics knowledge, and three days of AI discussions and trial and error, I finally finished it.

This project was inspired by Doodlum's dynamic cube map in the Skyrim community shader. It also contains portions of Community Shaders cubemap inference and updated shader logic that has been ported to Fallout 4. Full credit goes to Doodlum and Community Shaders contributors.

feature

  • Outdoor reflections can include the current sky, terrain, buildings, and nearby landscapes.
  • Room reflections use a darker, warmer fallback until enough rooms are observed.
  • The reflection in your memory behind you gets further away as you move forward. (switchable)
  • Reflective materials in gold, copper, silver and other special colors retain the desired color of their original reflective texture.
  • Original desaturation bypass. On rainy days, the colors come back with reflections!
  • No ESP, pure F4SE plug-in, safe storage, safe installation/uninstallation at any time.
  • Small performance impact (4%)

Install via Mod Manager

(recommend)

  • Download and install using Mod Organizer 2 (MO2) or Vortex.
  • Enable the mod and make sure F4SE is set up correctly.
  • MCM is used to switch different effects.

limit:

This isn't ray tracing, and it doesn't render the entire world at once. It builds reflections based on what the game is already rendering on your screen, then remembers and adjusts the direction you're no longer paying attention to.

This approach greatly reduces performance costs, but also introduces some natural limitations:

A direction you've never focused on can't accommodate perfect real-time reflections. It temporarily uses a backup image.

  • Changed sections behind the camera may remain out of date until that direction becomes visible again.
  • Very fast turns, teleports, loading transitions, or sudden light changes may briefly show reflections being refreshed.

need

--Fallout 4 original runtime version 1.10.163

——The runtime

Script Extender (F4SE) Note: More version support is planned for future updates (including next-gen builds).

  • Natural Cubemaps and My Another Cubemap are highly recommended, as the original game's alternate cubemaps have visible building images that leak through the reprojector, ruining your immersion!

compatibility

Should be compatible with everything. ENB, Reshade and DLSS have been confirmed to be compatible.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
