Overview
Combat Commentary Adds commentary for the player character during and after combat.
The purpose of this mod is to allow players to say lines that are relevant to the situation and prevent the frequency from becoming annoying. Combat commentary checks a few variables and lets the player speak a sentence based on those checks.
This mod does not alter existing data and should technically be compatible with all content.

Specific details
While similar mods work fine, I started developing my own mod to be able to implement my preferences. I'm using ChizFoShiz's collection of Skyrim player voices as an example of how to add scripts to nearby actors.
The scope of player comments is (currently) limited to combat and end-of-combat, Stitch & Radiant healing and damage status (including Radiation).
Some examples of variables that are considered and may trigger specific rows:
Number of enemies killed (one or more)
enemy race
Enemy type (e.g. robot, boss type, course)
enemy faction
The type of weapon used to kill the enemy (explosives)
If the player is almost killed
and more
Voice lines will also be triggered when the player is exposed to large amounts of radiation or physical damage, or when healed with a Healing Stitch or Aphrodisin.
Facial animations have been changed to match what the player is saying.
This mod should not conflict with other mods, but will obviously show strange results if used with mods that add voice lines to the player.
All DLC is required due to the use of voice lines and NPC race checks.
I experienced no performance degradation on my mid-range machine.
Since the sound files are packaged in .ba2 files, the speech will always be in English.
As always, please back up your saved games before using them. I encountered no interruption issues during testing, but please use it at your own risk and report any issues you may find.
A note about custom added races/mobs: This mod checks things like keywords and races to choose what voice lines the player will say. If a custom added creature uses an existing keyword or race, this line will reference that existing entity. For example, if a creature is technically a new skin and/or variant of the Rabid Ghoul, this mod will still recognize it as a Rabid Ghoul.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
