What is Block Overhaul?

The main purpose of the Block Overhaul is to change the way blocking works in Fallout 4. Previously, players could block attacks from all enemies, but this mod changes this behavior. The main change is that certain powerful enemy attacks, like the Deathclaw, Super Mutant Behemoth, and Queen Mireluk, can no longer be blocked at all. These monsters are so terrifying and powerful that stopping their attacks is no longer possible.

These changes apply to players and NPCs

Additionally, the mod introduces different levels of damage reduction to block attacks from various enemies:

100% Damage Reduction: This level allows you/NPCs to completely block melee attacks from human enemies, meaning you/NPCs take no damage from their blocked attacks.

75% reduced damage: Blocking melee attacks from Mirelux only reduces the damage you/NPCs take by 75%.

50% damage reduction: For stronger enemies such as super mutants, you/NPC can only block half of the damage from their attacks.

Damage reduced by 25%: Blocking attacks from more powerful enemies such as Yao Gui (the cute mutant bear) will only reduce damage by 25%.

You/NPC can block melee attacks from human enemies up to 100%

If the enemy is a mire crab, it can only block 75%

Stronger enemies, such as super mutants, can only block to 50%

Stronger enemies like monsters can only block to 25%

The most terrifying monsters such as the Death Claw, Super Mutant Behemoth, and the Mire Crab Queen cannot be stopped.

Overall, the blocking overhaul aims to make the game's blocking mechanics more challenging and realistic by limiting players' ability to block attacks from particularly powerful enemies.

Features

MCM has many options for you to use and configure!

You can also switch between the new blocking system and the original version.

Block cost: AP points

Attacks you block now cost AP points. Here are some example costs:

Stopping an unarmed attack requires 15 action points

Blocking a melee 1H attack requires 20 action points

Blocking a melee 2H attack requires 30 action points

Power Attack requires 60 Action Points (Power Attack is an attack that blocks less than 100% damage)

Hostile NPCs must also use action points to prevent attacks from you or other NPCs

Blocking threshold

You can set multiple operating point thresholds, depending on the incoming source of damage. For example, if you have 19 or fewer action points, you can no longer block attacks from melee unarmed/1h/2h.

Chunk thresholds also apply to NPCs.

Recoil

Recoil is known from the vanilla blocking system. Enemies are forced into a retreat anim …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
