💬 Introduction, please recommend. Why choose this mod over the many other ammo crafting mods? I'm personally dissatisfied with the limited and simplified approach to other ammo crafting mods. None of them are anywhere near as good as New Vegas' ammo crafting system. And they usually clutter up the Chem Station menu.

⚙️ What this module does

For modders who want to add their own ammo crafting functionality to weapons, this mod is a great prerequisite to prevent the "ammunition" category from having many different mods in the player's workbench.

This module includes:

Ammunition decomposition recipe

Suitable ammunition components (lead, cartridge cases, powder, detonators, etc.)

A script to increase the probability of bullet casings ricocheting when fired

Classification area on the workbench

Bushings and Primer Boxes, Powder Cans, Powder Cases, etc. (LL Injection) for sale at Sellers

Additional crafting materials and items bring a more realistic crafting experience

Ammunition patch, including ammunition crafting recipes and ammunition decomposition, as well as shell rebound function

Improved weapon scrap recipes

Ammunition production

Workbench menu

I personally hate cluttered workbench menus, so I made sure each new category would appear side by side on the chemistry workbench. The default order is alphabetical and cannot be changed, so I replaced ammo and ammo disassembly with ammo and ammo disassembly.

Classification

  • Ammunition Dismantling - Break down ammunition. 1 recipe for each type of ammo, allowing you to choose how much ammo to disintegrate.
  • Ammunition - Craft Ballistic Ammunition
  • Shotshells - Craft shotgun shells and flares. (If you want to find more shotgun types, you can check out "Real Shotgun Mechanism")
  • Special Ammunition - Craft non-ballistic ammunition, including nuke and paddle rounds, as well as missiles, mini-nukes and 2mm EC

Ammunition - Syringe - Synthetic syringe ammunition. Original categories have just been renamed for consistency

Common ammunition naming

More accurate and specific naming conventions have been adopted for the naming of almost all ammunition. For example, 10mm ammo is now 10mm automatic, and .45 caliber ammo is now .45 ACP. The 5.56mm ammunition was also changed to 5.56x45mm. I made sure it fit the setting. I used the length of NATO instead of the 5.56 designation for NATO because we don't know if NATO exists in the Fallout timeline.

The name change is to give modders more flexibility to add alternative ammo of different lengths or similar calibers without confusing players. For example, let's say the handmade rifle in the game is based on the AK-47, which uses the original 7.62x39mm used by the AK-47. By changing 7.62 to 7.62x39, 7.62x25, 7.62x51 and 7.62x54R, naming inconsistencies can be avoided for weapons using these elements.

Recipe analysis

Fallout 4's recipe system is limited to making only one item (or items) per recipe. I got around this limitation by having the ammo crafting recipe craft a scripted item, then add multiple items to the player's backpack, silently deleting the original crafted item. Breaking down ammo will give you bullets, shells, primers, and gunpowder. And just like New Vegas, you don't always get a 1:1 ratio of all lead or gunpowder to re-cre …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
