Updated on August 23:
Version 1.0.2
- Added an independent detection range page in FOMOD.
- A new near-vanilla detection range is added, suitable for short-range combat and performance-sensitive settings, or players who do not want long-distance engagements.
Updated on August 12th:
Version 1.0.1
Detection range update
- Expanded suppression, now you can suppress the enemy and the enemy can suppress you.
- Reduced detection and combat engagements between remote NPCs in the three profiles to prevent long-range faction fighting and unnecessary frame rate loss.
- Re-adjusted player-specific detection distance so that enemies can still reliably see and attack players from an appropriate distance.
- Adjusted stealth, visible targets, combat detection and absolute detection limits for each profile.
- Added an optional extended detection range component, restoring the long-range performance of the original version 1.0.0 and creating a sense of war.
This mod improves enemy detection, memory, search, and player interaction capabilities, while retaining the native AI structure of Fallout 4. Features dynamic and real-time adaptive changes in NPC accuracy, search, memory, suppression and pushback behaviors. Designed to be as compatible and lightweight as possible. No scripts, no F4SE, no changes to weapons, damage, health, NPCs, races, quests or packs.
It is safe to install/uninstall mid-game. Compatible with old generation, anniversary edition, and next-generation "Fallout 4".
Enemies are now stronger and have more flexible fighting styles, depending on their profile, race, and archetype. They can now detect visible threats at true distances, remember the source of attacks, and search around the player's last known location with true memory. Ranged groups can provide suppressive fire (covering fire) while other combatants redeploy or push players, while reduced independent flanking prevents enemies from advancing players one by one in a single column.
NPC hit rate is balanced by combat archetypes, rather than applying a universal/global modifier. Predators and auto-shooting enemies have lower hit rates than trained soldiers, elite units, bosses, and professional combatants (couriers). Autoturrets can now acquire and engage long-range targets without increasing accuracy.
The mod also improves the engine's native fallback behavior. NPCs who have been instructed to retreat in Fallout 4 can now retreat further, seek cover, utilize nearby doors, and regroup closer to allies. This is an unscripted alternative system - there is no scripted morale calculation or ongoing casualty tracking system.
GIF image function demonstration:
**Search vs. Actual Cover Use**
Enemies can now dynamically use cover after combat or when discovered, depending on how much and uncertain cover is.
**Sound-based positioning**
Enemy AI will now attack the area where the sound is heard, even if the player is not detected, but will only actively engage after contact (friendly troops are killed).
**Fighting Behavior**
Combat behaves completely differently than the original and feels more authentic. You'll no longer feel like you're fighting a bunch of mindless robots.
**Actual covering fire and support**
Enemy AI will now support friendly forces with supporting fire, suppressive or covering fire.
**Last Known Position and Memory (Real Brain)**
Enemy AI now has richer and more realistic memory, as well as last seen/last heard location location.
**Real and rewarding stealth**
Stealth is now more realistic and rewarding. Enemy AI is no longer aware of your presence and cannot communicate telepathically with friendly forces.
**Precision and Ambush**
Enemy AI now has unique hit rate values based on its archetype. Ambushes have also been expanded to be more dynamic and realisti …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
