What's this
The Settlement Workshop builds access hatches that allow you to literally crawl across rooftops.
Easily access previously inaccessible rooftops. No need for a stairwell, just go up.
Don’t understand?
You put the access hatch (128 units) inside the red rocket:
When you use the hatch to get onto the roof, it looks like in the screenshot
The Access Hatch is a workshop buildable component.
You activate it from below - you move upward. You activate it from above and then move down.
Do you understand now?
good.
More information:
There are a bunch of different hatch lengths: 16, 32, 48, 64, 96, 128, 256 units.
Choose one based on the thickness of the roof or upper floors you need to go through.
Version 1.2 adds access doors and access components: 32, 48, 64, 128, 256, 1024 and 2048 units.
Use them to pass through walls or into hillsides.
They are located in the STRUCTURES/CONCRETE/MISC build menu.
The hatch has no loading screen.
As of version 1.3, Tunnels and Doors does have a loading screen, just to work around a weird engine bug. Because, of course, there's a weird engine bug that triggers in some corner cases and ruins everyone. Why not.
The bug affecting jump functionality seems to only trigger when there is cellular water near tunnels/doors.
Version 1.4 introduced the SafeMode property for Tunnels and Doors. true by default. Setting this to false will disable the cell water error workaround and the loadscreen caused by the workaround.
To disable SafeMode, select Tunnel/Door in the console and type:
setpv SafeMode false
Hatches can be automatically placed on workshop roofs and upper floors. Place them from below while building.
Place Everywhere is highly recommended for non-shop structures such as the Red Rocket building.
NPCs can theoretically use these hatches, doors, and tunnels - but not for navigation/pathing anyway.
If you follow NPCs with you, they will port with you, albeit when you use hatches/doors/tunnels.
If you like the Vertibird Fast Travel, the whole concept works great with my Vertibird Landing Pad mod.
You can also use The Access Hatch to go underground. Build a wine cellar. Or a bunker. Or an underground power plant.
This mod is fully compatible with the Great Settlement Shift.
Maybe give this mod a thumbs up if you find it useful. Thanks.
That's it.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
