summary:

This mod increases the number of wound severity categories and adjusts their values to a slightly narrower range. The goal of this adjustment is to adjust soldier recovery times to be closer to the health they lose while on a mission.

Detailed description:

From what I can surmise in the game script, soldiers injured during a mission are categorized by their overall lost health percentage (including the armor they were wearing). This percentage then places them into a certain wound severity category, with each category having a minimum and maximum range. The game randomly picks a number from this range, which is converted into a number of days injured, which is also converted into wound severity (for example: minor injury, injured or severe injury).

The base game only contains four wound severity categories, 1-20% health remaining, 21-50% health remaining, 51%-75% health remaining, and 76-99% health remaining. The score ranges for these categories overlap - meaning that soldiers who fall into the bottom category (less than 20% health) can actually roll only slightly higher numbers than soldiers who fall into the top category (76-99% health), and their wound times are similar even though their wounds are not.

This mod will override the wound severity categories in XComGameData.ini and then increase the number of categories from 4 to 10 in 10% increments. Additionally, the minimum and maximum values for each category have been slightly scaled down, so a soldier with only 25% health should be injured longer than a soldier returning 50% health. Under the default system, these soldiers are in the same category, so it's entirely possible to be injured for longer.

I'm trying to roughly follow the same scaling as the default game, if you feel like it's too far in either direction please let me know in feedback.

Also note that this mod will not affect soldiers who are already injured (since it would require a lot of code to dig into game history), it will only affect soldiers who are injured after the mod is installed.

Install:

Extract the contents into the ..\XCOM 2\XComGame\Mods\ folder.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
