ShieldBalance
Makes round and tower shields viable: a guard break no longer lets the whole hit through, and heavier shields take less stagger and stamina per block.
About this mod Author’s original text
Shield Balance
Makes round shields and tower shields worth carrying, without making the buckler any weaker.
Versão em português abaixo.
The problem
In vanilla, the buckler wins. Its parry is the strongest, and a parry staggers the enemy, which then
takes double damage. Tower shields cannot parry at all, they slow you down, and plain blocking has a
nasty catch: every blocked hit fills your stagger bar, and when a blocked hit fills it, the shield
does nothing — the whole hit goes through. The heavier the shield, the more you rely on plain
blocking, so the more often this hurts you.
What this mod does
Guard break still blocks. When a blocked hit breaks your guard, you are still staggered, but the
shield reduces the hit as usual and only the excess reaches your health. Parry bonuses still require
not being staggered.
Stability by shield type. The stagger you take while blocking is multiplied by shield type
(defaults: buckler 1.0, round 0.85, tower 0.7). Heavier shields hold the line longer. This covers
both times vanilla adds stagger on a block: for the excess when blocking, and again when that excess
becomes damage.
Stamina by shield type. The stamina cost of a normal block (not a parry) is multiplied by shield
type (defaults: buckler 1.0, round 0.85, tower 0.7).
Shield type comes from the shield's parry bonus, so shields from other mods are covered with no
lists: no parry bonus = tower, 2.0 or more = buckler, anything in between = round.
Only players blocking with a shield are affected. Monsters and blocking with a weapon work as in
vanilla.
Config
BepInEx/config/bub.shieldbalance.cfg. All values are synced from the server and admin-only, so
everyone plays with the same numbers.
Install
Everyone must have it: server and every client (enforced by Jötunn). Install with r2modman or
Mod Manager.
Compatibility
Works alongside mods that change block stamina (e.g. FeastMaster) — multipliers stack. Mods that
rewrite Humanoid.BlockAttack entirely may conflict.
Shield Balance (português)
Deixa escudos redondos e tower shields valerem a pena, sem enfraquecer o buckler.
O problema
Guarda quebrada ainda bloqueia.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
