Rusty Heathens QoL
A Valheim quality-of-life mod built for the Rusty Heathens community.
Install and update
Install RustyHeathensQoL 0.5.22 on the server and all participating player PCs. Pair it with RustyHeathensServerQoL 0.5.14 on the server only for Rusty Backpack and automation. Keep ModGuard 0.2.2 and existing configs.
Use Mod Manager or r2modman for player profiles. Close Valheim and stop the server before replacing DLLs manually. Keep one active copy of each plugin in BepInEx/plugins.
What's included in 0.5.22
- AutoProcess can request a closed source chest from its current owner when the processor has a different owner. The current owner refreshes, saves and verifies the chest before granting it to the processor owner. No items move during the handoff and it does not open a chest or select a build tool.
- Processing refreshes saved chest contents before feeding, so stale inventory does not require somebody to touch the chest. Verified transfers and configured reserves remain enforced.
- Access checks use the receiving player's private/ward permissions. Both owners must have updated QoL and the station/chest loaded. Open, unavailable, unrelated and reserved-only chests wait without moving items.
- The companion server includes the earlier pickup scheduling fix: distant, delayed and leased drops do not delay fresh nearby drops through a full queue rotation.
- Six visible normal inventory rows, equipment/food slots, the backpack hammer guard, dropped food/consumables, red gear-grave markers and linked new backpack/inventory graves remain included.
Player inventory and backpack
The player has 8 columns by 6 normal rows (48 slots), plus Head, Chest, Legs, Back, Utility, Trinket, Ammo and Food slots. Rusty Backpack opens through the configured server emote, normally Wave. Its four-row view scrolls for larger progression capacity. Backpack contents are weightless; closing with Esc stays closed until another open action. The invisible host follows the player.
Inventory and backpack keep separate recovery controls. New backpack graves stay 1.25 metres beside the inventory grave from that same death as it settles or floats. Existing unlinked graves retain their locations. If the main grave is recovered first, the backpack grave stays at its last position until recovered.
Other features
Nearby-chest crafting/building uses player materials first, then the shortage from eligible chests. Tiered proximity Auto Repair, safe Quick Stack, food hotkeys, the character preview and server-authoritative settings remain included. ServerQoL's chest-content labels stay visible without blocking interaction.
Ground AutoStore setup
Enable AutoStore in ServerQoL. Put one matching item into a closed, accessible regular chest, leave room for the entire dropped stack, and drop the item within the configured range (default 20 metres). The default nearby-player protection period is 3 seconds.
The current chest owner's updated client must have the drop and chest loaded. Backpacks, graves, carts, Personal Chests and temporary loot containers are excluded. Empty boxes need a matching seed item. Ground pickup still uses vanilla drop-ownership consent and verified saves with rollback.
Verification
Built against the supplied Valheim 1.0.16 and BepInEx assemblies. The combined update passes 495 local logic and simulated behavior checks, including 83 AutoProcess ownership/refresh checks. The previous processing sources fail 14 of those checks, including split-owner dispatch and stale-inventory feeding. Fixtures do not execute Unity rendering, physics or multiplayer networking.
Rusty confirmed red markers and backpack transfers without a hammer, and reported that pickup resumes when everyone is nearby. AutoProcess handoff, pickup with one nearby player, inventory-panel sizing and paired-grave placement still need the included live test after updating. The reported weight of 305 remains unconfirmed; this update makes no carry-weight chang
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
