Location Finder

Press ' to open the panel. Check the locations you want, hit Apply — every matching location in the world gets pinned on your map instantly, world-wide, no zone loading required.

Updated for Valheim 1.0 and the Deep North biome.

How It Works

Location Finder reads from ZoneSystem — the world's pre-generated location registry. All locations in this registry are placed at world creation time and stored in the save file, so they can be found instantly without visiting any area first.

Pins are session-only and not saved to your manual pin list. They are cleared on world unload.

World-Unique Locations

Haldor, Hildir, Bog Witch, and the Forge of Potential each have up to 10 candidate sites reserved in the world at creation time, but only one ever actually spawns — the first one a player gets close enough to. Location Finder pins all the candidates up front, then automatically removes the unused ones the moment the game resolves which site is real. No action needed — it just narrows down on its own as you explore.

Servers & Multiplayer

| World type | Behaviour |

|---|---|

| Private / single-player | Finds every location in the world, instantly, from anywhere |

| Player-hosted (the host) | Same — world-wide |

| Dedicated / joined server | Finds locations near you, within ServerSearchRadius meters (default 400), as you move |

Valheim never sends clients the world's location list — it only exists where the world was generated — so on a server the mod works differently. Every location that has loaded near you carries an identity tag the mod can read; as you travel, locations within your search radius are named and pinned using your normal category checkboxes. Log: Live mode on: locations within 400m of you are pinned as they load. then Live: N new location(s) near you (...).

  • A location that's loaded but outside the radius is not marked as seen, so it's picked up once you get within range.
  • Pins stay once placed. ServerSearchRadius = 0 removes the limit (everything the game has loaded around you).
  • You can't search the whole map from a distance on a server — you find things by exploring toward them.
  • Beehives, Leviathans, and the world-unique locations (Haldor, Hildir, Bog Witch, Forge of Potential) pin as you explore on any server.

Advanced: whole map on a server (off by default)

Set ServerFullMap = true to make a server behave like a private world, if you can provide the data one of two ways:

Saved world export (no server access, just a copy of the server's world file): set ExportWorldLocations = true, load a copy of the server's world file (.fwl +.db) as a local world once (a copy keeps its unique ID), and the list is saved to BepInEx/config/YouDied.LocationFinder.world-.txt. Joining the real server then loads it.

  • Exact, since it comes from the real save data. It is not regenerated from the seed — worlds upgraded across game versions get locations placed after the fact, so a regeneration would give confident but wrong pins.
  • Game updates can add locations (e.g. a new biome); re-copy and reload the world to refresh.

Server component (if you can install plugins on the server):

| Where | What to install |

|---|---|

| Everyone's game | LocationFinder.dll (the normal mod) |

| Dedicated server | LocationFinderServer.dll in the server's BepInEx/plugins folder |

| Player-hosted (listen) server | Nothing extra — the host's normal LocationFinder.dll answers requests |

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
