Less Grey Dwarfs

Tired of every walk through the Black Forest turning into an unsolicited Grey Dwarf convention?

With Less Grey Dwarfs, you decide how many twig-wielding nuisances are allowed to spawn. Set your preferred spawn percentage, and the game will make sure the Grey Dwarf population never exceeds your limit.

Want a peaceful stroll? Set it low.

Want a mild infestation? Turn it up.

Want the entire forest to become a pebble-throwing nightmare? That’s between you and Odin.

Features:

Set the maximum Grey Dwarf spawn percentage

Reduce surprise forest ambushes

Spend less time fighting angry garden gnomes

Fully configurable to match your preferred level of woodland harassment

Because sometimes you want to explore the Black Forest without being personally responsible for a Grey Dwarf extinction event.

HOW IT WORKS

What the code does (per-attempt probability):

Every time the game tries to spawn a Greydwarf, it rolls a random number 0.0–1.0. If it rolls above 0.25 (75% of the time),

the spawn gets cancelled. If it rolls 0.25 or below (25% of the time), the spawn proceeds normally.

With per-attempt probability, you get:

Natural smoothing — it's always 25% odds, so the population naturally settles into a lower steady state without weird bursts

Works everywhere equally — doesn't matter if you're deep in the Black Forest or just passing through

No edge cases — a hard cap can break if other mods or events try to force-spawn

Still feels alive — you'll still see them, just not constantly

The math works out roughly like this: if the vanilla game naturally maintains ~12 Greydwarfs in your loaded area, with 25% per-attempt

odds it'll settle around ~3 at a time on average. Enough to keep the Black Forest feeling dangerous, not annoying.

So it's a 25% chance per spawn attempt — like a coin flip that only comes up heads a quarter of the time.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
