About this mod Author’s original text

Keep Food On Death

Your next corpse run starts with a full stomach.

Keep Food On Death preserves the foods you've eaten when you die in Valheim, including their remaining duration. If a meal has 10 minutes left when you fall, it still has 10 minutes left when you return. Timers pause while you're dead and resume after respawn.

You'll respawn with health, stamina, and eitr filled to the maximum your remaining foods provide, ready to get back into the fight.

Features

  • Keep your active meals: Foods you've already eaten survive death.
  • Keep the remaining time: Food durations carry over without resetting to a fresh meal.
  • Pause timers while dead: Waiting to respawn doesn't use up your food.
  • Restore food benefits: Respawn with full health, stamina, and eitr at your current food-based maximums.
  • Keep normal food decay: Bonuses decrease normally as food timers run down, and meals still expire.

Tombstones, inventory drops, and skill loss continue to follow your existing game rules.

Installation

Requires BepInEx 5 for Valheim.

  • Close Valheim.
  • Place KeepFoodOnDeath.dll in Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/KeepFoodOnDeath.
  • Launch the game and play.

For multiplayer, install the mod on each player's client that should retain food. No dedicated-server installation is required.

Compatibility

Other mods that change food removal or replace death and respawn behavior may conflict. Compatibility with those combinations has not been verified.

Release status

Version 1.0.0 has been compiled against the developer's local Valheim installation and passed 18 isolated logic checks. In-game death and respawn testing is still pending.

Uninstall

Close Valheim and remove the KeepFoodOnDeath folder from BepInEx/plugins. Future deaths will use the normal food-loss behavior.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
