Flare Arrow
A craftable arrow for Valheim that rises fast into the air, then ignites and drifts slowly back down under a bright glow — like a flare gun round. Great for lighting up dark nights, marking a spot across the map, or signaling to other players.

How It Works
- Fire it like a normal arrow. It arcs upward just like any other shot.
- The instant it reaches the top of its arc, it "ignites": most of its forward speed is shed, gravity is cut way down, and it starts glowing and trailing sparks as it drifts back to the ground.
- The glow fades out over a couple of seconds after it lands (or after it's been in the air too long, in case it falls in water or off the map).
- World wind pushes the glowing arrow and its spark trail around as it falls, so a windy day will carry it sideways.
Crafting
Craft at a Workbench (level 2):
| Requirement | Amount |
|---|---|
| Wood | 8 |
| Resin | 8 |
| Feathers | 2 |
| Greydwarf Eye | 5 |
Yields 20 arrows per craft.
Damage
Low pierce damage (1), high fire damage (28) — this is a utility/light arrow first, a weapon second.
Configuration
Every part of the flight, glow, and spark behavior is tunable via a BepInEx config file (or Configuration Manager in-game), synced for server-wide consistency:
- Arrow physics — how fast it falls after ignition, how much forward speed it sheds, how strongly wind steers it and how quickly it responds to wind changes, and a safety timeout for stray shots.
- Flare — the glow's brightness, range, fade duration, and visible size.
- Spark trail — how the particle trail behaves: lifetime, size, its own independent wind push, gravity, emission rate, and speed.
Requirements
- BepInEx
- Jötunn, the Valheim Library
Compatibility
Built without patching any core Valheim classes — all custom behavior lives on this mod's own cloned prefabs, so it should play nicely alongside other bow/arrow mods and hold up across Valheim updates.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
