About this mod Author’s original text

DyrnwynQuenched

Removes the fire particle animation from the Dyrnwyn sword in Valheim.

The blade's emissive glow and point light are preserved — the sword still looks hot, just without the animated flames.

This is the author's continuation of mex-DyrnwynQuenched under the mihanixa1 team. When switching, uninstall the old package first: both packages use the same plugin ID and should not be installed together.

Version 1.0.3 targets Valheim 1.0.16 (Deep North). It quenches the sword in both the item database (including character selection) and the world prefab database. Damage and other gameplay stats are unchanged.

Verified with an automated runtime check in Valheim 1.0.16 / Unity 6000.0.75f1 / BepInEx 5.4.22 on macOS (x64 through Rosetta): five particle systems disabled, both lights and mesh materials preserved, equipped clones and repeated database copying checked. Windows/Linux were not runtime-tested.

Requirements

  • BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2202+

Installation

r2modman Mod Manager (recommended)

Install via the mod manager — dependencies are handled automatically.

Manual

  • Install BepInExPack Valheim.
  • Copy DyrnwynQuenched.dll to /BepInEx/plugins/DyrnwynQuenched.
  • Launch the game through BepInEx.

If the flames remain, check BepInEx/LogOutput.log for Loading [DyrnwynQuenched 1.0.3]. An absent line, or an old log timestamp, means you should check the BepInEx launch configuration first.

On Apple Silicon, an x64 BepInEx/Doorstop installation requires running the Intel version of Valheim through Rosetta. Launching the native ARM version will not load an x64 Doorstop library. Use the BepInEx distribution and launch method appropriate for your platform.

Building from source

macOS: defaults to the Steam install path

dotnet build DyrnwynQuenched/DyrnwynQuenched.csproj -c Release

Windows / Linux: set your Valheim install path

dotnet build DyrnwynQuenched/DyrnwynQuenched.csproj -c Release -p:ValheimDir="C:\...\Valheim"

Output: DyrnwynQuenched/bin/Release/DyrnwynQuenched.dll

The build detects the macOS app layout or valheim_Data/Managed. If needed, override ManagedDir and BepInExDir separately. Game and BepInEx DLLs are used only as references and are not redistributed.

Development runtime checks are documented in tests/README.md; their plugin is not part of the release.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
