CrossbowMemory
A loaded crossbow stays loaded when you switch weapons, stash it or log out, and remembers which bolt was in it. Client-side.

Crossbow Memory
Your crossbow stays loaded when you put it away.
In vanilla Valheim, a loaded crossbow is unloaded the moment you switch to another weapon, sheathe it, start swimming,
use a crafting station or log out, and you have to crank it again. With this mod the crossbow remembers that it was
loaded, and which bolt was in it, until you actually fire.
What it does
- Load your crossbow, switch to a sword, switch back: still loaded, no reload bar.
- Works through sheathing (hide weapons), swimming, crafting stations, sitting, chests, dropping, death (tombstone)
and leaving / rejoining a world.
- Remembers the bolt type that was loaded. When you take the crossbow out again it re-equips that bolt, if you still
carry some (otherwise it keeps whatever bolt you have equipped).
- Nothing is gained or lost: reloading never costs a bolt in Valheim; the bolt is taken when you fire.
- Works for every weapon that has to be loaded before it fires: Arbalest, Ripper, and modded crossbows.
- A reload that was still in progress when you switched is not remembered (same as vanilla).
Multiplayer
Client-side. Only your own crossbow is affected; other players and the server do not need the mod.
Configuration
BepInEx/config/com.crossbowmemory.valheim.cfg, or in game with ConfigurationManager (F1):
- Enabled (on): off = vanilla behaviour.
- Restore bolt type (on): re-equip the remembered bolt when the crossbow comes out.
- Log events (off): one log line whenever a crossbow is remembered, restored or fired, and a list of your
crossbows at login. Turn on if something seems wrong.
Notes
- Does the same job as the deprecated SaveCrossbowState (plus the bolt memory). Run only one of the two.
- Requires BepInExPack_Valheim. Nothing else.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
