BoarBreedingUnlimited
Removes or raises the population cap so tame animals keep breeding. Optional configurable cap.
About this mod Author’s original text
BoarBreedingUnlimited
Removes the built-in population cap that stops tame animals from breeding once a few of them are nearby.
What it does
Vanilla Valheim caps breeding at 4 nearby animals of the same species. Fill a pen with 4 boars and they simply stop reproducing. This mod bypasses that check, so a well-fed and happy pen keeps producing offspring indefinitely.
Applies to every creature that uses the Procreation component: boars, wolves, lox, and chickens.
Configuration
The config file is BepInEx/config/com.honeymanmods.boarbreedingunlimited.cfg. It is created the first time you launch the game with the mod installed. You can edit it Mod Manager / r2modman (Config editor), or in-game with ConfigurationManager (F1).
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| LimitPopulation | false | false = unlimited breeding. true = use the cap below. |
| MaxCreatures | 20 | Cap per species in the local area (range 3-100). Only used when LimitPopulation = true. |
Tips for MaxCreatures:
- Vanilla is about 4.
- The parents count toward the cap, so 3 is the lowest value that still allows breeding.
- 10-30 is a good range for a pen.
- Above ~50 animals in one spot, most PCs start to lag.
- The cap counts each species separately and only looks at nearby animals, so separate pens are capped separately.
Install
Recommended: install Mod Manager or r2modman.
Manual: drop BoarBreedingUnlimited.dll into /BepInEx/plugins.
Server / multiplayer
- Singleplayer / player-hosted: install on the host.
- Dedicated server: install on the server. Client-side install is optional (won't hurt, but the server owns breeding logic).
Warning
Uncapped breeding means a pen left unattended will grow without bound. Large numbers of active creatures hurt performance. Cull manually as needed.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
