AshlandsWaterFix
Fixes retained Ashlands ocean heat and restores the heat-distortion overlay with a two-second cooldown.
About this mod Author’s original text
Ashlands Water Fix
A small client-side BepInEx plugin for Valheim 1.0.12.
What it fixes
Valheim 1.0 introduced a separate internal heat value for the Ashlands ocean,
but that value is never reduced after leaving the water. Once fully heated, a
player can therefore take immediate full damage when entering water again.
The same change disconnected Ashlands ocean heat from the existing camera heat
effect, removing the gradual visual warning that existed before release.
This mod:
- Cools a full Ashlands ocean heat charge to zero at a constant rate over two
seconds after leaving dangerous water.
- Preserves partial heat if the player re-enters before those two seconds pass.
- Also cools retained heat in safe, non-Ashlands water.
- Restores the heat-distortion overlay and makes it fade in and out with the
actual ocean heat level.
The mod does not change heat buildup, damage, equipment heat resistance, or
lava behavior.
Installation
- Install BepInExPack for Valheim 5.4.2333 or later.
- Copy AshlandsWaterFix.dll into a folder under BepInEx/plugins.
Only the client needs the mod. Installing it on a dedicated server is not
required.
Building
The project targets.NET Framework 4.6.2. Build the release package with:
dotnet build AshlandsWaterFix/AshlandsWaterFix.csproj -c Release
The -ready archive is written to
dist/AshlandsWaterFix-1.0.0.zip.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
