About this mod Machine translation

A packaged GUI for The Witcher 3 wcc_lite.exe Mod tool"

witcher3 mod helper (w3mh) is a GUI wrapper for wcc_light.exe.

No more manually creating these batch files. It's for my personal use, but I thought I could share it with those who are interested.

Note:

Just finishing version 0.1, I noticed there was another tool that apparently did the same thing: modkitchen. You might also want to take a look at this (it looks more professional than my work, TBD).

folder

There is only one file: w3mh.exe. It is a VS2013 C++ version compiled with statically linked MFC (quite large in size). Tested on Win10.

Current file version: 0.3

File history

0.1: Initial upload

0.2: Improved game cooking ("-skiperrors"), GUI overhaul, file selection DLG with more options, import/export texture type selection (png, jpg...)

0.3: Adapt modtools updates. Added additional export file selection to override new textures (added by user). The game unrecorded folder has been renamed to "0". Added XML file filter. Changed filter settings in the File Selection dialog box.

use:

First, you need to install switcher3 and switcher mod tools. Then, give the folder a short name and no spaces in the pathname (e.g. f:\w3mh\) and put w3mh.exe there. Click the button, run and set the path to the witcher3 main game folder and mod tools (the information will be stored in the local ini file).

In order to unlock the entire game for future mods, w3mh will create a directory called "0", create a temporary batch file and call it. w3mh is blocked while batch file is running.

Press "Prepare New Mod" to create empty processing folders (1_raw' to "5_packed"). Please note that existing folders with the same name will be deleted!

Press Select Import File to display the file selection dialog and select one or more W2Mesh, XBM, or XML files. You can remove all or individual filenames from the list, or move names up or down in the list. The file name will be saved in the ini file. Note that exporting textures without corresponding meshes may cause wcc-lite to fail. So, it's better to select the mesh first and then the texture. For example, for Temerian Shield, add Temeria_Shield_01.w2Mesh first, then add Temeria_Shield_01_D01.xbm and Temeria_Shield_01_N01.xbm (or sort them later in the File List dialog).

Invoke another automatically generated batch file by pressing "Import file to modify". The data will be stored in the "1_raw" folder.

Manually copy the contents of "1_raw" to "2_moded". This is not done automatically to avoid accidentally overwriting files. Then, modify it as you see fit in the folder '2_moded'.

Press Select Export File to display the File Selection dialog again, and select one or more W2Mesh, XBM, or XML files. These will be exported to the game later.

By pressing "Export files after modifications", another batch file will cook and pack the files you changed and finally store the results in "5_packed" from which you can copy them (manually) into the game's mod folder. Run w3 and test...

Have fun!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
