Dialogue encoder for creating new extended dialogue scenes as new w2 scene files

The main purpose of the encoder is to *easily* create new simple or complex, multi-stream *conversations* between player characters and NPCs that can be triggered for in-game replay. But it also supports advanced features such as moving the camera, the use of animations, simulations and basic actor appearance.

The encoder is a command line tool without a GUI, and scenes are defined as text files.

An optional, in-game storyboard mod designed to help create a rough draft for a visual representation of a scene. The final draft is a textual scene description that can be manually fine-tuned later and supplemented with additional scene commands.

NOTE: The w2 scene encoder itself only generates subtitled dialogue. However, it is possible to provide voiceovers and/or lip-synced mouth animations independently by adding a corresponding w3 speech file that assigns the string id used in the dialogue to the voiceover/animation. Lipsync animations and w3 voice files can be created using the w3 voice tool and lipsync generator.

feature

Easily create conversations with multiple conversation streams based on player selections

Scenes/dialogue with up to 10 actors

Script calls at specific points in the conversation

Conditional conversation flow based on (quest) fact checking

Supports most selection icons

Generation of additional scene props (items)

Automatically change cameras during conversations (optional)

Custom Camera Change custom camera settings (position, rotation, FOV, DOF)

Moving camera as interpolation between two camera definitions (including FOV, DOF)

Attach in-game animations, additional animations, and mimics (facial animations) to actors

Trigger weather changes

And some more (see test example)

Supports dumping camera settings, animation/simulation settings from existing w2 scenes to check how CDPR performs

Compile the encoder for 64-bit Windows. Call -- for help.

limit

No gui so no visual feedback except for testing in game (use supported storyboard UI mod to mitigate issues)

There is no visual feedback for animation timing and blending. You'll strain your imagination and often start the game over again. It's possible to get some decent results here and there, but don't expect the best

Only a preliminary check of the validity of the conversation definition

If any of these points are deal breakers for you, save your time.

important

This is not a grooming tool for beginners. There are some detailed tutorials explaining most features, but you should have intermediate or advanced knowledge of W3 modification.

To prevent multiple mods from using the same string ID, the same restrictions as the w3strings encoder apply. I strongly recommend you to use nexusmod mod id for your id space.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
