Fixed inconsistency between 3D game world and 2D world/minimap.
While exploring the world and eventually arriving at Bald Mountain, I noticed on the mini map, and then the world map, that the lake to the south was completely gone. Bearing in mind that mistakes can be made, I continued, later discovering another case in Skellige, where the path to the entrance to the abandoned fort was completely inappropriate, with the path on the map leading into the fort wall through trees when in fact the path and entrance were on the north side of the fort.
After encountering more and more inconsistencies, I decided to fix them in an attempt to make The Witcher 3 even more perfect than it already is, and here we are.
It seems like these bugs are either the result of someone at CDPR forgetting to draw them, or (more likely) the actual game world changed during development but the map files weren't updated to reflect those changes.
This mod is not compatible with E3 UI and HUD mods. I tried making compatible versions, but the E3 maps have a unique style that's difficult to recreate. So I can't make a compatible version unless the E3 HUD creator wants to use my texture as a new base and reapply the style.
However, if you try to install an E3 HUD using World Map Fixes, you will not see any changes or incompatibilities because the E3 HUD will overwrite the WMF textures because it uses a different new directory path for the map textures than vanilla.
However, WMF should be compatible with everything else, such as all mission objectives on the map, colored map markers, fast travel from anywhere, W3EE as it just replaces some loose textures in the .JPG format that have nothing to do with any .redswf or other similar files these mods typically use.
Install
Place the "modWorldMapFixes" folder into the Witcher 3 mod directory, such as the Steam version
“\ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ The Witcher 3 \ mods”
If you are updating from a previous version, just overwrite the existing "modWorldMapFixes" folder with the new files.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
