Hi, I was really annoyed from the beginning because I realized that TW3's modkit messes up the normal/specular maps when you try to import them back into .xbm files.

After a long search I found a solution to solve this problem by transferring the contents of the normal map directly into an .xbm file with the help of a hex editor. I've written a tutorial for those who feel like they can try it themselves.

Note that this can be a very lengthy process compared to the modkit importer. good luck! !

Version 2.0 of this tutorial has been released. This tutorial has been completely rewritten as some points were ignored in version 1.0.

runaway_cd from cdprojektredforum already pointed out these details for me, so credit and special thanks to him.

With this, the problem of normal mapping of 2048x2048 has also been solved.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
