Modify the various functions and attack methods of the crossbow
This mod aims to completely redo the crossbow combat in The Witcher 3. Introduced 4 new main crossbow types: semi-automatic crossbow, automatic crossbow, sniper crossbow and shotgun crossbow. Not only does it change all base game and BaW crossbows, but it also brings 11 new, special "crossbows" to the game. Additionally, it overhauls shooting machinery and adjusts crossbow prices.
This mod uses or changes crossbow files, textures and models from the Blood and Wine DLC and 13. DLC (one that brings 3 new crossbows into the game), a Blood and Wine DLC with extras and mutations. It was written for GOTY version 1.31 of the game. I don't know how it will perform on other versions of the game, but I'm almost certain that it won't work (or is missing some features) without any of the mentioned DLC.
- introduce
This mod aims to completely redesign the crossbow combat in The Witcher 3. Crossbows are almost exclusively used in the base game to take down flying or diving monsters (in both missions). It has such low energy that only with the "Cat's Eye" mutation (damage buff, like 5x, knockdown, pierce, 15% victim HP on first hit) it can actually kill something. Almost all crossbows are just called "crossbows" and the only difference between them is the appearance and damage of a multi-shot crossbow. This mod doesn't just increase crossbow damage, it completely changes the mechanics of the crossbow. All the crossbows here are divided into four main types: semi-automatic crossbows, fully automatic crossbows, sniper crossbows and shotgun crossbows. Moreover, each crossbow has its own parameters, such as ammunition, reload time, range or dispersion. In order to use these crossbow types, some new mechanics need to be introduced and inputs must be changed. This mod also adjusts the price and crafting recipes of bolts a bit, and adds legendary bolt schematics. All items also appear in New Game+ variants (even free bolts). All items and snow matiks added to the mod can be found all over the world, in chests or in shops (Hatori has almost all of them).
The module is not complete yet. It contains many bugs (mostly described in the "Be aware of the issues" section) and few work-in-progress features. However, I decided to post now to gather some ideas that could be added, changed, or fixed. If you have some ideas (especially for better names for new and old crossbows) or encounter some bugs, please feel free to contact me or write in the comments.
- New mechanics and inputs
Input changes:
In version 1.0, an option was added to use the default game input mechanism (see "Installation" section) - use the [use item button] for shooting. This mechanism is not comfortable to use, especially with automatic crossbows (they keep firing when held [using the item button], which is also used to enter manual aiming mode). To increase the comfort level of using a crossbow, I highly recommend using the new, mod-provided input mechanism, which uses the left mouse button to fire the crossbow (keeps automatic crossbow) while in aiming mode (rapid fire and bomb release unchanged). Aiming is still done using [Use Item Button], but it's harder to aim with the default middle mouse button. So I strongly recommend that you change the default middle mouse button to the right mouse button, and then assign Witcher senses and Parry to "E" and Interaction and Dismount to the middle mouse button (or other buttons). I know it's hard to get used to this weird look at first, but overall it's better to avoid the "E" and not have to aim for the middle mouse button.
This module also adds additional inputs:
-Scroll (only when aiming) using range (forward to zoom, backward to decompress)
- 'Q' (only when aiming) uses scope by toggling (e.g. none=>2x=>4x=>none...)
- '8' ('R' is occupied by consumable quick slot by default) forces a reload. It can only be changed by switching all the 8's in "IK_8=..." to the desired …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
