UE4SS for Subnautica 2

UE4SS is a powerful Unreal Engine game module tool that supports Lua scripts, C++ modules, blueprint loading, real-time editing and other functions.

This is the uploaded version of the original UE4SS version. This mod page is maintained by the Subnautica modding organization, which maintains Nautilus and other core libraries for Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero.

We will maintain and update this document as necessary. Eventually, depending on the level of help we get from Unknown Worlds, the community may develop our own core mod library.

Install

Place the zip file into your \Subnautica2\ Subnautica2 \Binaries\Win64 folder (not the \Engine folder).

Right-click on the zip file and select "Extract here" (or open the zip file and drag the contents out).

Install all mods into the \ue4ss\Mods folder

If the installation is correct, after starting the game, a file named UE4SS.log should appear in the \ue4ss folder.

↪ ℹ️ If you don't have a UE4SS.log file, you may just have a UE4SS file without a .log at the end. ↪ 💻An optional developer version is available for modders (you should see an external window when launching the game). ↪ 💚 Playing via Xbox Game Pass? Please place the zip file in the XboxGames\Subnautica 2\Content\Subnautica2\Binaries\ WinGDK folder. ↪ 🐧 Using Linux? Please add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dwmapi=n,b" %command% to the Steam startup parameters. ↪ ❌ Do not place zip files in the \Subnautica2\ Engine \Binaries\Win64 folder.

Important information "Deep Sea 2" uses Unreal Engine version 5.6.1.

Due to the use of the Io Store system, "Deep Sea Trek 2" does not entirely use .pak files, but mainly uses .utoc and .ucas files.

Unlike its predecessor, which used managed C#, Subnautica 2 is primarily written using native C++ code.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
