Sprites in Detail

✨ **Make your Stardew Valley character more polished! ** ✨

🎯 Module Introduction

This is a **Modding Resource** that, while it may be required by other content packs, has no effect of its own. It allows you to **visually replace** sprites with higher resolution versions!

🚀 Latest updates

**v0.6.1**

  • Better handling of menus and calendar wizards

**v0.6.0**

  • Updated to support Stardew Valley version 1.6

📥 Installation Guide

  • Extract the ZIP file to your *Stardew Valley/Mods* directory

⚙️Required

  • SMAPI
  • Content Patcher

🌟 Features

**Break through resolution limitations! **

Original sprites are limited to a 16x32 rectangle:

After using this mod, the sprite gets 64x128 pixels, but is scaled when drawn into Stardew Valley, making the sprite occupy the normal 32x64 pixel space:

**Effect comparison:**

🛠️ How to use

1. Create high-resolution sprite sheets

In Aseprite:

  • Increase sprite sheet size to 400%
  • Resize sprites to 32x64
  • Make sure the sprite is centered and **at the bottom** of the sprite area**

2. Create content.json

Basic format:

```json
{
"Sprites": [
{
"Target": "Target resource",
"FromFile": "Your replacement resource location",
"BreathType": "Male|Female|None",
"When": {
// optional conditions
}
}
]
}
```

3. Process breathing texture

  • **Male** - uses the same sprite position and size as adult male NPCs
  • **Female** - uses the same sprite position and size as adult female NPCs
  • **None** - completely disables breathing textures

4. Conditional Wizard

Support for ContentPatcher's conditional tokens and queries:

```json
"When": {
"Weather": "rain"
}
```

5. Create manifest.json

Requires ContentPackFor entry pointing to SiD:

```json
"ContentPackFor": {
"UniqueID": "BleakCodex.SpritesInDetail"
}
```

🎨 Pixel replacement function

You can replace part of a sprite sheet or the entire sprite:

```json
{
"Sprites": [
{
"Target": "Maps/springobjects",
"PixelReplacements": [
{
"FromFile": "food/fried_egg.png",
"TargetX": 32,
"TargetY": 128
}
]
}
]
}
```

💡 Usage suggestions

  • Multiplayer mode should work, but all changes are client side
  • If the mods are different, other players will not see your changes
  • The collision box remains the same even if you make a sprite that is particularly wide

🔧 Technical details

**How it works:**

  • SiD textures are loaded but do not interact with Stardew Valley logic until the actual draw operation
  • During drawing, SiD draws the texture according to the required specifications

**advantage:**

  • Does not affect size, bounds or other logic
  • Highly compatible with event, path and boundary calculations

Install & use Install: SMAPI mod (Stardew Valley standard)

  1. Install SMAPI first (Stardew Valley's mod loader): download it from smapi.io, run 'install on Windows.bat' and pick your game folder.
  2. Unzip the archive from playbuff and find the folder that contains manifest.json — that folder is the mod.
  3. Copy that whole folder into Stardew Valley/Mods/.
  4. Launch the game through SMAPI (run StardewModdingAPI.exe or set it as the launch option). The console before the title screen lists each mod's load result.

Cheat-style tools may not need SMAPI — unzip and run them as the readme describes. Back up your save before editing it; SMAPI lists failed mods in its console.
