This is a direct port of the current version of Kai's Makeup and Warpaints for Oldrim, the plugin is saved as ESL. Tested and working fine so I think it's time to release. Changed mod name for SE since no one outside of tumblr or discord calls me Kai.

In its current state, this plugin offers 15 makeup textures assigned to the Warpaints section of Racemenu. This includes three eyeshadow variations, as well as several ways to apply lipstick. Now also includes a highlight and shadow shade for contour, blush, yaaaaaaay blush.

I did these while doing some NPC modifications for another project and wasn't happy with most of the existing options. After looking at some screenshots a friend asked me to release what I've done so far and I've put them up on my tumblr but I'd like to be able to have them. Hope they are useful.

As of version 1.3, there are also 15 Dalish vallaslin based warpaints for any Dragons fans out there - well, 15 textures, but they're really just different face combinations of the same set of two Dalish markers. Falon'din and Mythal.

There may be more 'warpaint' type additions in the future if I want to add something, but I'm mainly adding these to the content so that there are content updates and I can keep my plugin count as low as possible, even if it changes the focus of the mod a bit. The main feature is still the makeup color.

My plan is to avoid using warpaint or makeup models created by others as much as possible (except for any high-resolution default replacements for vanilla paint) and create whatever I want to use from scratch.

Now. forward.

At the time of writing this article, my texture of choice for skin and face is Graphene Block 20, which can be found here and is described in all screenshots below; the shades provided were made with it as a reference and I haven't tested it extensively with other skin texture packs, but it should work with anything that has a similar normal map (yes, NORMAL MAP is an important part here). Graphene is based on Fair Skin Complexion IIRC, so you'll probably have good results with that too. The aim is to provide basic options that work well together while being usable, and allow combinations to become more fanciful.

In SE I now use Bijin's textures and the tints work great too. The following screenshots are from Oldrim.

The lipstick has been carefully mounted based on normal maps to best match the perceived "edge" of the lips:

This seems to be what sets this approach apart from others I've tried (my previous efforts in fact). It is possible to match the shape of the diffuse texture exactly, but if the hue does not match the NORMALS, it will appear to be physically in the wrong place. My tints are built to match the normals. I can't guarantee that they'll work with every texture combination (there are too many), but no matter what skin texture I try, I run into this exact mismatch in almost every proverbial makeup bag. so. Hope this helps someone else helped me.

There are lots of options for lips, some are pictured above: fully opaque shades (I wish this would have more of a 'matte' effect, but it should provide something similar to seductive lips), more subtle with a slight smudge (I'm currently using this on my machine as a default lipstick replacement since it's prettiest IMHO), a slightly darker variation of the same stain, and a set of "stain/lip liner" shades that will allow you to define the edge and center colors respectively for maximum control (similar to Stoja's makeup kit, but based on my own custom lipstick configuration). Because they are part of the Warpaints section, you can layer them as needed.

You'd be surprised how useful actual makeup tutorials can be f …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
