Wabbajack effect adjustment

The Wabbajack, Lord Sheogorath's artifact, can produce many different effects on those it strikes. It's mostly uninteresting, so much so that the so-called powerful artifacts quickly fall by the wayside.

This mod isn't labeled as an "overhaul" because I didn't really add any new artifacts, but since I didn't notice other projects correcting my complaints, I've set out to fix my end of it. So here's what Wabbajack used to do, and what it can do now:

  • Since it is impossible for anyone other than the player to use Wabbajack, the script simply blocks any effects of the trigger, if that is the case. No longer, if your companions dismiss Wabbajack, they can have the same effect on your target.
  • By default, for more comical effects (essential, giant, dragon...), Wabbajack seems to unleash an elemental explosion if the actor is ineffective against another... It's just for show. Literally. It only deals 60 health damage and doesn't actually affect anyone nearby. bring it on.

Elemental explosions are now actual spell explosions that cause corresponding fire, frost, or shock damage and effects, and affect anyone within 15 feet of the explosion. But rest assured, only those hostile to the caster will be affected, so you and your companions are... somewhat safe (the secondary effects of the explosion may still trigger).

  • There are a lot of fixes and changes to the way Wabbajack works compared to other effective actors. The most dizzying of all is "Shapeshifting," where the goal is apparently to transform into a harmless animal or a rampaging Dremora. It turns out that the transformation was actually one extra actor replaced with another, resulting in graphic effects. Stage magic, if you will. The replacement is virtually watertight, and once it's hit, the original cast just fades away, not worse for wear.

Since this is the main deal about Wabbajack, I decided to seriously mess with this effect. First, the possible alternatives expand with the variety of possible organisms. This transformation can not only be a chicken, loach, or rabbit, but can bring something like a goat, a troll, or a chaurus, basically almost anything that starts with the ID "Enc(ounter)" and looks like an animal. On the Dremora side, conversion can also result in Atronach, for all non-aligned daedra variants the game offers.

Secondly, the replacement now only lasts 10 seconds, but is no longer invulnerable, doesn't end when you hit it, and it inherits the damage done to the original and vice versa. Yes, killing the replacement kills the original. Therefore, transforming into a bunny or similar is now an easy game for your enemies. uniform? I don't think so. After all it's supposed to be a daedric-mf-artifact and you can't guarantee its effectiveness.

NOTE: Since replacement works by temporarily disabling the original actor, it will not work if he has a parent reference defined. Again, in this case it defaults to elemental explosion.

  • Other effects have also been fixed and optimized, and they should now be more consistent. The status absorb effect transfers half of the target's base health, mana, and stamina to you, but is now capped if the target has less than that remaining. Alternatively, the target may be killed outright, receive a healing blast, become invisible, turn sweet, or disintegrate into gold coins. The last one now generates a random number of coins instead of a fixed 50, and you can enable a setting to shell out money directly instead of cluttering the area: Set WabbaGoldPocket to 1. The target will now be simply killed if it cannot be disintegrated due to other safeguards.
  • Wabbajack now costs 150 flat charges per explosion, which makes it possible to use it 20 times at 3000 weapons and is no longer affected by your Destruction skills and perks. Overall, this may not be balance, but with such a weird concept, I don't know what "balance" is supposed to be. …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
