WARNING: This mode shakes and moves the camera during combat, which can cause dizziness, nausea, or worse. Use at your own risk.

Or use the shake-free version.

Disclaimer: I created this mod for personal use. I make no guarantees about the quality of the experience, nor the impact on performance. I had no issues running it on a high-end PC (8700K, 1080Ti) and VIVE Pro HMD, but your experience may vary. I can't test this on other configurations. This mod is using scripts and may corrupt saves if uninstalled during combat.

important:

Depending on reprojection and physical settings, you may not get the best experience. In this case it is recommended to use the shockless version

Don't uninstall during combat!

After uninstalling, you may need to set the player to be unnecessary. To do this, open a console and type:

setessential 7 0

describe:

This mod mainly affects melee combat.

Immersion effect:

  • Every hit you perform causes the controller to vibrate and the camera to shake. The vibrations and jolts depend on whether the hit is blocked, and whether it's a normal attack, a power attack, or a slam.
  • Being attacked (from melee or projectiles) will shake the camera and momentarily fade to black, depending on the type of hit
  • Blocked impacts shake the camera and controllers
  • When dying, the camera falls to the ground to simulate a fall, and the game fades to black and returns to normal. The camera then pans up and the last saved load will occur.

Behavioral changes:

Depending on the type of victim and attacker and the victim's stamina, the victim can experience:

  • staggered
  • fell to the knees
  • ragdolling

-Lost shield/weapon when hitting hard

Players are not affected by any of the above, but can cause any effects on NPCs.

Staggering and ragdolling provide an opportunity for the attacker (higher chance, stamina dependent) and the victim (lower chance, stamina) to make a kill on one side. Players are excluded, but minions can take advantage of this. Essential followers cannot be killed by the Slayer.

The attacked combatant will turn on a new attacker if the attacker is closer than their previous target.

expression:

I've added stronger, more visible expressions for NPCs in combat. Depending on their health and stamina level, they will look angry and fierce, and ultimately more scared. These expressions update when they hit or hit someone else.

The aggressor will occasionally taunt when taking down an opponent.

suggestion:

Install the following mods in this order: Realistic Ragdoll Powers, Spin-Free Death Animation, Wild Cats, Combat Evolved, Realistic Enemies, Realistic Melee Range, 3rd Person VR Death. I don't think it matters where this mod is in relation to the above. I haven't tested other configurations as this is my current setup.

Some technical details:

I've included the source code because I thought it would be possible to at least use the camera shake effect to create a sense of immersion.

The mod relies on a low radius (128 units) cloak effect that can add scripts to the cast around the player. Everything is event driven, so things don't happen outside of the (main) OnHit event.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
