I worked on basic needs (eating, drinking, sleeping) in a subtle, non-punitive way.

Oldrim version available:

describe

Basic needs are a common goal for mods, as food and drink in the vanilla game are completely useless, while sleep is only slightly beneficial to skill-increasing bonuses. This model brings more weight to these game mechanics, but does not introduce a survival mini-game where one needs to keep a large amount of food and drink in an inventory, or stay near an inn every few hours.

The goal is to encourage eating, drinking, and sleeping without distracting from the rest of the game.

detail

Vitality mode can be started immediately from MCM. If not booting from the MCM, you will have the option to start Vitality Mode during game time after the completion of the unbound tutorial mission, or use an alternate boot mode.

When starting the mod, hunger, thirst, and fatigue will be tracked. As you travel across Skyrim, these attributes slowly increase from 0% to 100%. When all attributes are below 10%, the vitality bonuses to base stamina, health regeneration, magic regeneration, and disease resistance are applied. If any attribute exceeds 60%, a similar debuff will be applied. If any attribute reaches 100%, you will die. However, reaching the point of debuffing and dying is very difficult unless you are extremely negligent or configure the stat growth to be more core.

Reduce hunger and eat food. All foods are satiating:

Low: 5% hunger reduction by default

Average: 10% less hunger reduction

Good: 15% less hunger by default

High: Reduces hunger by 20% by default

Certain raw foods, such as meat, are considered unsafe and their satiating effect is reduced before cooking. Additionally, some alchemical ingredients can reduce hunger.

To reduce thirst, drink something. Non-alcoholic drinks reduce thirst by 20% by default, alcohol by 10% by default, and certain foods like soups or stews can also reduce thirst by 5%. Given that almost every drink in Skyrim contains alcohol, there are no additional negative effects from alcohol. Pure water can be purchased from the innkeeper or made in a stove using gathered water. Water can be collected from standing pools and waterfalls by "equipping" empty containers in your inventory. Valid empty containers are buckets, jugs, flagons and empty wine bottles. Filled containers can be consumed, but they have reduced thirst quenching compared to pure water.

To reduce fatigue, sleep on any bed. Fatigue will be completely cleared when sleeping a full night (default is 8 hours) and moderately reduced but may not be cleared if not slept a full night.

Werewolves do not suffer the raw food penalty, and their fatigue increases half as fast.

Vampires can only reduce hunger and thirst by feeding blood or blood.

Cannibals can reduce hunger by feeding on corpses or certain raw materials and do not suffer the raw food penalty.

Stat increases and decreases are highly configurable, and if a food or drink item isn't recognized you'll have the option to add the appropriate stats. In addition, instrument widgets can be shown or hidden directly in the MCM, or the current attribute status can be displayed using configurable hotkeys. All configuration can be done through the provided MCM.

The gauge widget color indicates which property is tracked. Orange represents hunger, cyan represents thirst, and white represents fatigue.

FAQ

“How is this different from other demand patterns?”

Positive reinforcement rather than negative reinforcement. Other required mods tend to add debuffs as incentives to eat, drink and sleep. Vitality mode instead provides a Vitality bonus as an incentive to manage your needs regularly, but you're not penalized for ignoring your needs until your vitality becomes dangerously low.

Demand grows slowly and easily enough that you don't need to keep a lot of food/drink in your inventory or constantly worry about whether a bed i …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
