About this mod Machine translation

An xEdit script to automate the creation of alternative texture sets.

So, this script is a little different. It has no target audience, does not meet the requirements, and its use cases are very limited, but the concept can be greatly expanded.

The reason I made this script is because I really like Better Town Textures on Oldrim. Later on the road there were Tamriel Reloaded Mountains and Rocks (?) and Spice of Life: Forts which also provided some wishes.

Knowing these are compatible as hell, and wanting to use my parallax and/or ELFX meshes, I wanted to find a perfect dynamic solution.

Well, I did it, but now I don't know what to do. It works for my testing framework, but it requires an author who wants to create something similar to the mod above, but with some reorganization required.

For par value, this script will search "Data\Textures\UTT" for certain "keywords" for towns, such as riverwood or ivarstead.

Textures from these directories are then applied to supported mesh file paths.

Finally it will change the base record of the affected supported mesh so that the object has the town's replacement texture.

The reason I'm posting this is because I want a writer who has the ability to take advantage of it. I'd be willing to repurpose some of the scripts to provide some simpler functionality for this author.

It works, but I don't really have it to show.

Try using something like:

For Tamriel Reloaded HD, place the texture folder in "Textures\UTT\falkreath"

Try Noble Skyrim, put the texture folder in "Textures\UTT\riverwood"

Try Vivid Landscapes AIO, put the texture folder in "Textures\UTT\mortal"

If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

To use it, there are some important parts to note...

The folders in the UTT directory are the "keys" that influence which locations.

Check each location record to see if the "key" is a substring in the name or record or parent.

Only valid texture paths will actually have an alternate texture set, otherwise the default mesh set is used.

Supported nifs files are set to see if a given object uses the grid, with a substring of its file path matching a substring in the list.

MISC objects will appear as duplicates but with unique textures.

Depending on the settings, xEdit may freeze, give it some time.

This is a ulitlity and not suitable for end users, used under advisement as I don't perform all the checks I should and the xEdit script is horrible *shrug*

Pay attention to the version of xEdit you use, this thing is very new. If in doubt, grab the latest github.

So, this script is a little different. It doesn't have a target audience, it doesn't fill a requirement, and its use case is very limited but the concept can be expand greatly.

Well, I made it, but now I have no idea what to do with it. It works for what my testing framework was, but it needs an author that would like to create something similar as the mods above, but some will require some retooling.

For face value, this script will search "Data\Textures\UTT\" for certain "keywords" for towns, like that of riverwood or ivarstead.

Then apply the textures in those directories to supported mesh file paths.

Last it will alter the base record of the affected supported meshes to have the object with the town's alternate textures.

The reason I am releasing this is becasue I want an author that has the ability to utilize it. I am willing to retool some of the script to provide some easier functionality for that author.

Its usable but I don't really have a showcase.

Try using something like:

For Tamriel …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
