A series of adjustments, bug fixes and new features for CC Survival mode.
Overview
CC Survival Mode has major issues with weapon speed penalties due to hunger. Specifically, if you use a mod that applies attack speed fixes, those penalties become a huge buff. Since I do use the attack speed fix mod, I need to fix this before using survival mode. Once I got into it, I started coming up with other ideas to tweak how the survival mode mechanics worked. This mod is a collection of these ideas, bundled together into one mod.
Use the PapyrusUtil SE utility to save configuration settings exposed in MCM to an external file. You will find them in the <SSE>\Data\SKSE\Plugins\StorageUtilData\SurvivalConfig.json file. These settings will be carried over automatically whenever you start a new game.
Each feature implemented by this mod can be toggled on or off individually in the MCM. Below are descriptions of these features.
Thirsty
This mod adds thirst as a base requirement. The way it survives is very similar to starvation in survival mode. Over time, you become thirsty, and if you're running, sprinting, or in combat, your thirst will speed up a bit. Water or milk can be purchased from the innkeeper and added to the well. If you are thirsty, your language skills are reduced and the time it takes to recover from shouting is increased. The thirstier you are, the more severe these penalties are. Thirst is an optional feature that can be turned on or off at any time via MCM.
hybrid configuration
Starting with version 2.1.0, you can now turn each of the four basic requirements on and off independently. This allows parts using CC Survival Mode to be used with other popular immersion mods. For example, if you prefer Frostfall to a survival mode cold implementation, then you can use the MCM to disable the cold mechanics but keep exhaustion, hunger, and thirst active. Frostfall will take care of the cold, and Survival Mode will take care of the rest. Alternatively, if your preference is to use iNeed or RND, then you can use MCM to disable exhaustion, hunger and thirst but keep cold active. Survival mode will manage the cold and iNeed or RND will handle the rest.
Attack speed fix
By default, Skyrim sets the actor values WeaponSpeedMult and LeftWeaponSpeedMullt to zero. In survival mode, when you become Peckish from Hungry, it slows your weapon by 30%. The way to do this is to add 0.7 to these two actor values, since a value of 0.7 means you can only swing the weapon at 70% speed. However, if you have attack speed fix mode, the baseline for these character values is 1.0 or close to 1.0. When survival is increased by 0.7 to punish you for being Peckish, the result is a weapon speed of 1.7, meaning your attack speed is now 70% faster than normal.
This mod solves the problem by providing two separate implementations of weapon speed penalties. The default value for the first image is Peckish plus 0.7, Hungry, Famished and Starving plus 0.6. For these starvation states, the alternative method is to subtract 0.3 or 0.4. The mode you get depends on whether you check the box in the MCM to indicate whether you have attack speed fix mode enabled. I won't try to detect this automatically. You must specify the desired mode in MCM.
More progressive penalties
It seems to me that the various penalties for hunger, cold, and exhaustion suddenly hit the player. I think it might be better to let them take effect gradually. So for each possible penalty that can come from survival mode, I broke them down into 5 steps equally spaced within the range of required values. Sticking with the hunger example used above, this means that when you first become Peckish (hunger = 160), your weapon speed will be reduced by 6% to 0.94. As you gradually become hungrier, as you approach the transition from Peckish to Hungry (hunger value = 340), this value will change to 0.88, 0.82, 0.76, and finally 0.7. Transitions are equally spaced across the hunger scale from 160 …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
