About this mod Machine translation

Disabled magic effect hit shader for better compatibility with subsurface scattering.

Why are you doing this?

The currently available Subsurface Scattering Shader (SSS) implementation uses an EffectShader, which conflicts with most magic effects in the game because the engine is limited to a single EffectShader per actor. This causes SSS to be disabled for the duration of the effect, which can be annoying if you notice it happening a lot.

EDIT: It looks like ENB 0.368 has been updated to fix this issue. I'll leave this version open for anyone interested.

What does it do?

This mod simply removes hit shaders from certain magic effects to resolve individual conflicts with SSS. It has the same results as the mod without more ugly effects and without more glowing edges. Except it currently doesn't work with all hit shaders, just the ones I find SSS unpopular with. Additionally, these mods do not resolve SSS issues.

What are the exceptions?

Now I'm trying to remove only the homebrew hit shaders for spells and potions, and only the ones with alternative visual effects, like healing and fire cloak. Goal and contact effects will still be shown. I still have the frost effect shader left in, but I'll probably keep removing more.

Install:

Download and install the .esp using Vortex or another mod manager

Is there anything else I should know?

I've never released a mod before, it's virtually untested. Please back up your save data before installing any content from this site.

Why did you make it?

The currently available subsurface scattering shader (SSS) implementations use an EffectShader which conflicts with most of the magic effects in the game due to the engine being limited to a single EffectShader per actor. This causes SSS to be disabled for the duration of the effect which can be annoying if you notice it happening a lot.

EDIT: It looks like ENB 0.368 has already been updated to resolve this issue. I will leave this mod up for anyone interested.

What does it do?

This mod simply removes the hit shaders from certain magic effects as a work around to resolve the individual conflicts with SSS. It has the same result as mods like No More Ugly Effects and No More Glowing Edges. Except it currently does not apply to ALL hit shaders, just the ones that I found to be undesirable with SSS. Also those mods do not work to resolve the issue with SSS.

What are the exceptions?

For now I have tried to remove only the self-cast hit shaders for spells and potions, and only ones which have alternative visual effects such as Healing and Flame Cloak. Targeted and contact effects will still be displayed. I also left in the frost effect shaders among others for now, but I might continue to remove more.

Installation:

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
