About this mod Machine translation
I've spent countless hours researching the best .ini settings so you don't have to! This is an optimized SkyrimCustom.ini, created from scratch and based on research from many sources.
This is an optimized SkyrimCustom.ini file written from scratch. This is the culmination of a full day spent reading the various guides for Skyrim Configuration.ini, a week of refinement, and an ongoing peer review period. The guide I used was itself the result of weeks of research. I’ll link to these guides at the bottom of this article. Most guides are written specifically for Oldrim; I've weighted each of their recommendations and considerations individually and modified them when necessary to work with Skyrim SE. Overall, I looked at over 1500 different variables. If I make any changes, I will update this file on .
How to enable
Copy SkyrimCustom.ini to Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\.
Change "iNumHWThreads" to equal the number of logical CPU cores on your computer. If you're not sure, 4 is probably a safe value.
Add 'bEnableFileSelection=1' under the '[Launcher]' heading in SkyrimPrefs.ini (This setting has no effect in SkyrimCustom.ini.) (SkyrimPrefs.ini should be placed in the same folder as SkyrimCustom.ini.).
Things to note
Any variables defined in SkyrimCustom.ini will override any identical variables in Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini. This means that when installing this file, the game may ignore any .ini changes you use, such as Mod Organizer 2 or Wrye Bash.
This mod uses the centered crosshair recommended by the STEP project. If you like your crosshair to be biased to the right like vanilla, then search and delete the line under ";Crosshair Position"
Note that this is an "Ultra" preset. However, as a general rule, I tried not to include any settings that can be changed in-game, so if you set the graphics to something other than "Ultra" in the settings window, you can still reduce the graphics somewhat in exchange for better performance. If you want to squeeze out some extra performance, you could also try reducing certain values (iShadowMapResolution, iWaterReflectHeight, iWaterReflectWidth are some of the low-hanging fruit, but there are plenty of others.) and disabling certain variables (anything marked "; for ENB," which is an obvious high-hanging fruit, but there are plenty of others."

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
