Root Builder 2.0 for Mod Organizer 2 by Kezyma

The purpose of this tool is to (ironically) solve the problem of having too many different tools and utilities to manage outside of MO2.

Normally, we are used to downloading Mods from Mods and installing them in MO2 with one click and everything is neatly placed in the Data folder. However, with tools and utilities we usually have to manually install them in their own folders or directly in the game installation folder, and MO2 usually prevents this.

Using this utility, you can reorganize utilities, tools and other modules that were not placed in the Data folder and copy them to the appropriate location, as well as delete them or update the original files in MO2.

User Guide

-------------------------------------------------- -

set up

----------

First, you need to install .Net Core 3.1, if you don't have that you can find it here.

Copy RootBuilder.exe to any folder you want, it's generally recommended to give it a separate folder within the main Mod Organizer folder (not Tools) and keep it there so it's easy to find.

Add RootBuilder.exe to the executable in MO2, hopefully you already know how to do this using Mod Organizer, if not I recommend looking for a beginner's guide to MO2, it's easy and comes fairly early in most guides.

Organize files

----------

Next comes the fun part, you want to install all the utilities and other mods through the Mod Organizer like normal, it will most likely tell you that they are not packaged correctly and ask you to sort them.

Next, you'll create a new folder at the top level of the mod (at the same level as the folders you'd normally find (like textures or meshes)) and copy the mod's contents into that folder. If it's a tool and is loosely packed, you might want to create another folder named after the tool to put all the different files in.

If the files need to go into the game's installation folder, the new folder you create should be called Root.

If the files are tools and you want to use them in MO2, the new folder you create should be called Utils.

This means that when you run the game through MO2, the files you just arranged will be located in GameName\Data\Root\ and GameName\Data\Utils\ and can be easily picked up by RootBuilder.

Using RootBuilder

----------

Now, launch RootBuilder via MO2.

The first thing you have to do is select the game you want to use, a single RootBuilder installation can track one copy of each game at a time, so you don't need to have multiple copies of RootBuilder for multiple games.

Next, you need to choose the installation location of the game, which is the folder that contains the main exe file of the game you want to modify.

Then, select the folder where your current Mod Organizer 2 installation is located, the one you are currently running.

You can also choose to enable Wabbajack support.

Once you've done this, you'll have three buttons at your disposal.

copy root file

When pressed, everything in the "root" folder will be copied to the game installation folder, and if there are already files there, they will be overwritten. Everything copied is stored in RootBuilder's settings file.

As with the Root file, everything in the Utils folder will be copied to a folder called Tools in Mod Organizer 2, with the full list stored in the RootBuilder settings file. You can then add them as executable files in MO2 for later use.

If Wabbajack support is enabled, everything in the root folder is copied to a folder in Mod Organizer 2 called Game Folder Files, which Wabbajack uses to determine which files should be in the game's installation folder when compiling the modlist.

Sync root files

When pressed, every file copied by RootBuilder will be copied back, everything in Mod …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
