describe

Made skill level formulas for Smithing, Inferno, Enchantment, Disenchantment and Alchemy Alterations. The vanilla recipe is terrible, incentivizing grinding the cheapest, most boring crafts from skill level 20 to 100. The adjusted recipe will incentivize people to craft harder stuff, enchant/disenchant more expensive items, and brew potions with more and rarer ingredients.

Smith formula

Vanilla recipe: 3 * (item value) ^ 0.65 + 25

New formula: (3 * (sum of materials used) ^ 1.1) / ((smithing skill + 10) * 0.05 + 1)

The vanilla recipe promotes the cheapest stuff to craft, usually an iron dagger or nails from Hearthfire. This is an incredibly tedious and boring way to level up. New recipes promote the use of expensive materials like ebony ingots (the more of the better materials you use in 1 craft, the more XP you get), and as your blacksmithing skill increases you have to use better materials or you'll get so little XP that it's almost impossible.

Tempering recipe

Vanilla Recipe: 3.8 * (Item Value Added) ^ 0.5 * (Quality Level Improved) ^ 0.5

New formula: (2 * (sum of materials used) ^ 1.1) / ((smithing skill + 10) * 0.05 + 1)

Vanilla recipes depend entirely on the value of the item being tempered. New recipes depend only on the value of the materials used. This means that improving an Ebony Dagger can provide the same experience as improving an Ebony Warhammer, which is preferable since you use the same amount of materials to do so.

Charming recipe

Vanilla Recipe: 1

New formula: ((ItemBaseCost + 100) / 300) * (SoulGemCost / 200) / ((Enchanting Skill + 10) * 0.05 + 1)

No matter what happens, the vanilla recipe only costs 1 XP. If you enchant an iron dagger with a small soul gem you'll get the same XP as if you enchanted an ebony battle ax with a magic gem! The new formula rewards you for using more expensive base items and soul gems, especially if you manage to do so at a low skill level. At higher levels you have to use better items and gems, otherwise you will gain very little experience.

Break down the recipe

Vanilla recipe: EffectBaseCost * 0.0025

New formula: EffectBaseCost * 0.0025 * (ItemBaseCost + 50) / 300 / ((Enchanting Skill + 10) * 0.05 + 1)

The vanilla recipe actually kind of works here. However, I added an extra multiplier so that if you dismantle some very expensive items it will provide more experience, also I added a skill based reduction, the higher level you get, less dismantling will benefit you as a way to level up.

alchemical recipe

Vanilla Recipe: ??? (Complex Mess)

New formula: 2 * (sum of ingredient costs) ^ 1.2 * (ingredient count) ^ 2 / ((alchemy skill + 10) * 0.05 + 1)

I have a huge problem with the vanilla alchemy upgrade recipe. It depends on the value of the potion you create, whether you use the most expensive and rarest ingredients to create it. New recipes depend only on the cost of the ingredients and the amounts of them used, not the final contents of the potion. Another problem with the vanilla approach is that the more motivated you are into alchemy, the more perks there are and the more XP you gain because your potions will be stronger, which is not good. Using new recipes, upgrading with more than two ingredients is always beneficial, as it provides more experience, and gaining perks in the alchemy skill tree does not change the amount of XP you gain.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
