Precious metals (in ounces)
Isn't it strange that scraping a gold vein for a few seconds would produce enough ore to smelt a gold brick? The same bricks only provide enough material to make a single ring or necklace? This mod turns giant gold and silver ingots into more reasonably sized ounces, about one-eighth the size of vanilla ingots.

What this model does is:
Isn't it weird that grabbing a gold vein gives you enough ore to melt a block of gold in just a few seconds? The same brick provides just enough material to make a ring or necklace? This mod turns huge gold and silver ingots into more reasonable ounces, about one-eighth the size of vanilla ingots. If desired, 8 ounces or 16 pieces of ore can be combined into an ingot, which will increase its weight and value respectively. However, using these for crafting requires breaking them down into ounces (no material is lost in either process). In addition, special variant gold and silver ounces bearing the emblems of the Eastern Empire Company and the Markarth Silverblood family have been added to the level list and placed in their appropriate locations in the world. You can smelt these into normal ounces at any forge for use in crafting, selling, or gathering.
The plugin is marked ESL so you can enjoy it without losing your slot in the load order.
Why did you do this?
This bothers me. I play with a true medieval economy and realistic item weights, as well as models that increase coin weights, so I often find myself carrying precious metals as a kind of savings account. I find it odd that these ingots are so huge but have relatively low value, so I made this model as an intermediate step. It's also a good practice to make custom models and textures in Blender and Inkscape.
Install:
Choose regular or level-list-less version, download and install using the mod manager of your choice.
Optional files:
If you're so inclined, there's an optional full-marker download that will replace all the metal ounces - even those melted by you, the player - with my custom marker grid. Just override goldounce.nif and silverounce.nif with optional alternatives. This is considered unfriendly legend, but if you like my network so much, who am I to stop you?
compatibility:
This is relatively non-invasive as it only changes the name, weight, value, and grid of the vanilla ingot. This means it is 100% compatible with molds that add new crafting recipes or create gold bars, although I cannot guarantee balance using these molds. I balanced my numbers in a real economy, so having you model a full set of gold armor might not be realistic.
The standard version edits some normal level lists and places them in the world, which should be loaded before other mods that do the same thing if you want their changes to take effect (or use bashed patches). Alternatively, you can skip that part of the mod entirely with a "levelless list" version, but this will prevent you from getting the ounce marker variable other than using console commands or the optional grid replacer.
This is compatible with mods that change the textures of gold and silver ingots, just install after mine and they will cover large gold ingots and unmarked ounces.
One more thing, I also made a very small adjustment to go for the "only cure". I changed the dialogue and target text to say "ounces" instead of "ingots". This shouldn't cause any problems, but let me know in the comments if it does.

FAQ:
Q: Why does the weight of "ounces" vary depending on the metal? That’s not how weight works!
I know. This is a game balancing choice. I'd like to give gold a higher value/weight ratio than silver, but at the cost of being heavier overall. You are welcome to adjust the values in sseedit to your liking.
Q: Hey! The gold ingot says "1 pound" but it only takes 8 ounces to make one! You can't lie to me, I know my math!
A: You are right again, look abo …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
